I'm getting a 400mm 2.8 mk1 in a couple of days,
Two issues really
1, are there any rucksacs or lens bags that I can transport the beast around in, ideally with 1d mk3 attached, I cant seam to find much talk about them around
2, I have yet to tell the misses the "good" news! whats the best way to hide a 400mm 2.8 other than digging a big hole in the garden :naughty:

Not for the lens I hope?

Think Tank and Lowepro both do large lens backpacks, although most people that I've seen with them tend to go for a wheeled Peli/TT/Domke.

I too am hiding a 400 2.8 IS from the misses. I have the Tenba 400 bag and purchased it through B&H for about $165 US. The lens is a monster. The best way to hide it believe it or not for me is in plan sight. I do hope you have a great tripod as well as a gimbal. I hand held only once and my arm cramped after three minutes. Good luck with the hiding of the bazooka ..

I might need to check if she is on here if we do that. ROFLMAO

I fessed up straight away when I was going to get my 400. In fact, I did some expectation setting several weeks beforehand ("oh, this 300 2.8 just isn't right for football" and "look at those guys on TV - they've got 400's" etc). She knows her stuff so twigged that one would be coming through the door soon enough.

I'm currently hiding ALL my gear and trying to work out how to tell my good lady that I have taken up photography again!

Hahaha! That's just too funny. You're doomed!

My other halh just thinks my 400mm is one half of a very large pair of binoculars

lol
this would make a very funny thread
still not told her and its might be being delivered tomorrow, well she's in a good mood so might spill the beans:thinking:

That is priceless!!

I am just using my new 5dii like normal and haven't fessed up about upgrading from a 1000d... She holds it and everything and hasn't told the difference! So technically she knows... but doesn't! :D

Even with the kit 24-105 she hasn't bat an eyelid. Love it!

yeah my matteress will be really lumpy with the 400 lol

Well my Mrs is far too interested and knows what gear I have, plus she also has access to the online banking system and would notice any large decrease in our savings. Maybe I should get one on tick ?

I purchased mine with a 401k loan and used my personal/ business checking. If she found out I think someone would have a great view of the back of my teeth via a look through the lens......OUCH!!!

My OH has no interest in photography at all. I just assume that that extends to what I buy and how much it costs.

in our savings.

Now you see wrapped up in those three words is exactly where you went wrong. Once upon a time I was married and in my admitted ignorance I thought joint money was a loving thing to do. Well I'm divorced now and in my current relationship our money is our own. We have a pool for joint expenditure but our money is our money. We do what we like with it.

There speaks the voice of experience. I witnessed so many arguments over money when I was a child, I vowed never to let myself get into the same situation. We have a joint savings account, but both our salaries go into personal accounts and are our own. Happily married for fifteen years without a single argument over money in all that time. :)

Well I've been married for almost 22 years, we lived together for 5 years before that and all our money has always gone into a joint account. If you can't have trust you can't have a relationship.

Anyway, I'm "allowed" a 400mm when I get another job :)
