hi ...

im looking at getting a wide angle lens for the 400d

ive spent many hours browsing the net and to be honest..im completely and utterly lost as to which one

any thoughts and reasons pls

also would people reccomend sticking with canon lenses or is it worth looking at sigma/tamron etc ?

(tbh ive handled a few tamron lenses and they feel so cheap and plastic)

thx

the choices you have are sigma 10-20 or canon 10-22mm. Thy are both quite good but i beleive the canon edges ahead in IQ and performance. Its really your decision if the price difference is worth it.

Sigma 10-20 works nicely for me. Though I'm not really at a level where IQ might be an issue. The only thing I have noticed is some quite obvious chromatic aberation, but you can fix this quite easily in photoshop.

The Canon 10-22 is the best.
The Sigma 10-20 is by far the most popular.

The one I'd be taking a really good look at if I had a crop sensor camera is the tokina. I think it's an 11-17, is faster than the others and has had some good write ups.

I have the Sigma 10-20 and absolutely love it  I've never shot with the Canon 10-22 but I've always found the IQ from the Sigma to be excellent

I have the sigma 10-20mm it is good but has short comings it is a very unforgiving lens and is in the ultra wide class, i much prefer the 15mm-30mm sigma this is a much better wide angle lens <<< in my humble opinion,

regards Mark.

Well if you're just about to, coffee please. Strong, black, no sugar. :D

fax it.

I was going to suggest the Ef 17-40 f4L if you don't want a super wide lens, this one is great on a cropped sensor...

As assuming you have the 18-55 kit lens and want something wider.

Canon 10-22
Sigma 10-20
Sigma 12-24 (I believe this works on FF cameras if you envisage upgrading to a 5D)
Tokina 11-16 or 10-17

The Sigma is supposed to be pretty good, the Canon is top notch.

Depends how serious you are about turning out the best you can...

Just got myself a sigma 10-20 for my Nikon, absolutely love it. Probably my favourite lens in my kit.

The Canon definitely then! Remember of course this won't work on any non-APS-C sized sensors though (xxxxD, xxxD and xxD families at the moment)

remember the crop though, not a wide as you first think :( some on my 40D

If money is not an issue, then go with the Canon 10-22 every time. Saying that, the Sigma is not far off, at all...

ive used both of these and i found the sigma a much better build. The canons optics were good but not far off the sigma.
