Is there a huge diffrence between these two. Am toying with the idea of Pxing the 400d with the kit lens for a used 40d. The deal will cost me £240.

I do a mixed of shots but have just brought a 70 - 200mm F4 L lens and a 170 - 400mm Sigma lens. Also have a 50mm and a 75 - 300 USM 3 Canon lens.

So is it a good move or not.

I did the same move and dont regret it, faster frame rate, better buffer, brighter viewfinder, second wheel on back (takes a little time to adjust, but very handy) and overall feels better in your hands, 400D felt too small. Love my 40D

I have the 40D and love it. if you can do it get teh 40D just a better camera over all i think.

Love my 40D as well, you already have some decent lenses by the looks of it so go for it. I'd be tempted to bundle in the 75-300mm though, your other lenses are both better and very similar to this one. Makes someone a nice little kit with that lens and the kit lens (18-85mm?).

Well I have made the decision and the 40d will be with me on Monday!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 350D and have recently got the 40D as well. I'm not disapointed, but you did the right thing moving the 18-55 on with the camera. I have noticed that many of my shots on the kit lens now look noisy and not so good when I use it on the 40D.

You'll love the 40D, especially the second wheel on the back - no more have to hold buttons in when you're in manual and want to change the aperture, and picking it up again just now, it seems so small, even with the grip on it.

Have fun!

Steve

i went from 400D to 40D and love it

nicer to handle
better built
6.5fps
better/quicker AF
better ISO performance

list goes on but basically if money allows go with the 40D now while the £100 cashback is on, save you upgrading in the future :)

I was worried that the 40D woulden't be a big enough of an upgrade from my 400D as I felt really held-back by the 400D. I was so happy to get a 40D, it's a brilliant camera and I plan to keep mine for a good while yet :D

There's a BIG difference between the two, the 40D is just better in every way.

Handling of the 40d is soooooo much better - good move i think, congrats on the new purchase.

Thanks to all.

It arrived yesterday and I had a few practice shots with it once I got home. All I can say is that is certainly handles better than the 400d and the extra controls seem very well placed.

Just waiting for the weather to improve slightly so that I can get out later and try it for real.
