Has anyone taken the leap to the 40D from the 400D.........??

I am interested in hearing if it was worth it and why?

Well I have just gone from the 350D to the 40D, and I can honestly say it was the best decision ever! You will be sooooooo pleased with your decision. Everything about it is just superb IMHO  And you just wait till you pop the continuous shoot on... hehe, you will find yourself pressing the shutter just to hear it.

:suspect: Of course there are many more technical reasons for enjoying the upgrade, but I wouldn't know where to start  CT's thread sums it all up perfectly for me.

Yep, I did and it was mind blowing, for me.....
Image quality although others do just fine with the 400D.

Build quality - 40 feels far superior in regard to its physical size, even with a battery grip on the 400 I couldn't settle with it, 40 feels very 'planted'.

I much prefer the whole, wheel thing on the 40 opposed to the buttons on the 400.

To me, everything is superior, nothing I miss about the 400D !

Hi Jo, hope your well,

thanks for that. It arrives tomorrow from WE and im well excited. I read the post by CT and also read other reviews etc, just couldnt find any from a 400D >>> 40D user!!

Thanks dseered.

I went from the 350D to the 40D over xmas and it was the best upgrade I ever did, same as Jo.

The 40D is just better in every way, feels like a proper slr in your hand and bolting nice big L glass to the front just makes it better

Far more flexible and tunable via the menus, spot metering and the 6.5fps!!

I did 400D to 40D. Initially I was worried that there woulden't be a big enough difference but I LOVE the 40D, soooo much better than the 400D.

The 40D is a camera that you will keep forever, I know I will!

Have just done the leap last week myself. Viewfinder is larger/brighter which helps lots as I wear glasses, and was finding the viewfinder on the 400D a little lacking.
Feels fantastic in the hands, it really does - solid, well weighted.

Console yourself with the thoughts that it not having the latest and greatest that makes you a better photographer, you have to learn that it many ways the latest ranges are getting more point and shoot all the time:thumbs:

Another 350D to 40d upgrade here...

I dont regret it one bit...especially with the cashback offer from Canon at the moment

I will be going from the 350d to 40d later this year, once I'm 100% sure it is a move I want to make.

Haway you lot, you're encouraging me to spend money here.

I've been contemplating the move from 400D (with battery grip) to 40D for a while. I like the feel of the 40D and I agree that the 400D just can't match the "real" camera feel of the 40D.

The reason I'm procrstinating? I don't have any L series glass, and I'm wondering if I'd be better off spending my money on a decent lens first and seeing how the 400D works with that.

The lenses I currently have are:

Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro
Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC
(hardly ever used)
Canon EF-S 17-85MM f4-5.6 IS USM

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM (the kit lens - never used)

Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM

I like the idea of the DIGIC III processor but now the 450D complicates my decision.

Any advice?

Always spend your money on the glass first, the body is very much a consumeable in this modern age  it's also a very good idea to get used to the settings on your camera and the effect they have on teh images you produce, many do not need a Canon 40d they simply want it, as they believe it will improve their images, for some it will, but for those who are already accomplished togs it will be their knowledge that produces the image, along with assistance from the camera, first you have to see the picture in your mind, having a great camera will improve the image, but if you don't see it in the first place no amount of new camera will help you
