400d & Shutter Speed

Hi,

Does anyone know how to get a shutter speed of longer than 30s on a 400d?

I was thinking of using the BULB but i need to keep my finger on the button for the duration of the shot.

After seeing all these star photos i figured now is a good time to play, with clear skies forecast for the next couple of nights.

Bulb is the correct way but use a remote shutter release cable (they also normally have a lock so you don't have to hold the button)

Im sure if you have one of the Canon remotes such as the Canon RS-60E3,you can lock the shutter open withough having to keep your finger on the button. Would also eliminate the risk of shake

I think you can also use that USB remote software to pick long exposures.

I tried the demo with a long usb cable into the warmth of my study
