I think its time i got a grip for my 400D fed up of changing batteries and want to extra size. Where is the best place to pick one up from. Have seen one from Flebay its £24.99 plus £19 p+p. Is this a good price or is there a place to get one thats better quality or isnt going to break or be poor quality.

Also a good place to pick up some spare batteries for the grip.

on a proper website the cheapest i have seen them for is £79.99 ( i think that was warehouseexpress)

I dont really trust ebay apart from Kerso.

No brainer for me if I was in your situation. Would need to be a genuine Canon one, especially as there was a thread fairly recently that said a non Canon grip blew a circuit board in the camera..

I've got a non Canon from ebay (its the one with the delay timer & lcd built into it) and never had any problems with it. Tbh, I can't see that it would really make any difference or 'blow a circuit board' as it's basically a bit of plastic with a few metal contacts on it.

I use cheekycroc on ebay for batteries (obv, non Canon ones) for about £5 each delivered.

Can't remember exactly what was said, but I think the camera was sent to Canon, it had a blow board and I think the damage coincided with the use of a non-Canon grip.

Could be wrong as only quoting from memory:shrug::thinking:

How much are canon grips and where is the best place to pick one up? Cheers guys!

Picked mine up from Comet. £49.99 Genuine Canon too! Bargin!

Crikes, that is cheap . Doubt whether you'll get it any cheaper

I got a grip a couple of months ago and when I was researching I found comments that 3rd party grips i.e. not Canon can lead to 'error 99' messages as the contacts do not line up properly or the contacts don't contact properly. In the end I went for the Canon BG-3E @ £74.99 from Warehouse Express. the grip comes with a 6xAA battery cartridge that can be used in emergencies. I did get a 3rd party battery for it and so far this has been OK but it does discharge quicker that the Canon battery. Another point to consider is the extra weight. The size does mean the your left hand has something to grip and can take the weight.

Thanks hobbytog. I think ill go for an original canon one. No point going cheap and wrecking my camera.

I have a yxtm grip from the bay - never had any props with mine so far

It's a very good accessory to buy, I was impressed just how different it makes the camera feel. I also have a 400D and it makes it feel much more substantial, the AA battery cassette is a great thing to have for emergencies. I purchased a genuine Canon BG-E3 grip from a seller on eBay for £65 including postage, which was the cheapest I could find at the time. They no longer sell them but I'm sure if you shop around you can find a better deal than the main camera websites.

cheekycroc on ebay as previously mentioned are recommended. I've purchased from a few different sellers, all about the same price. My last purchase of two more batteries was from cheekycroc, much cheaper than genunine Canon batteries and the fact you can buy three or four for the same price as a Canon branded battery means that even if they run out quickly (although I've not found that with mine) they will still last longer overall.
