Hi

Are there any 3rd party grips worth considering? Can't really justify £150+ on genuine.

Cheers

Andy

Ive just bought this one from Amazon... I've only had it for a week but I've got no complaints so far. :)

Wow that's cheap! Does it function the same as the genuine Nikon grip? What's the quality like?

It functions exactly the same as the genuine one. Buttons are replicated (along with their functions) and the quality is good enough for me to be happy. It's a very good fit with little if anything in the way of rattles or creaks. :)

Thanks for the info. I'm torn between 3rd party of saving up and getting the genuine one.

When I bought the official grip for my D600 I remembered thinking "wow I'm a mug"

Well I chucked a cheeky offer in on a genuine grip on eBay. Got accepted for £100 [emoji3]

Having had both there is definitely a difference between Nikon OEM and Meike, though whether it is £xxx difference is highly questionable.
I did also have a Meike one for my original D810 and it was faulty and went back to Amazon for a refund.

I certainly wouldn't have paid for a brand new one at £200+. But for £100 I couldn't say no, especially the build differences in all the reviews I've seen between OEM and aftermarket. The magnesium body of the Nikon grip is gotta be worth having if the price is right.

I would agree with gramps. I have a genuine grip on a d750 (purchased second hand) and a Meike grip on a d7200 (came free with the second camera), there is definitely a difference in the build quality between the two, the materials are much better on the Nikon grip especially the buttons. The connection on the Nikon grip is better, the Meike camera connection socket sticks when removing the grip and the screw just doesn't feel as secure. There is also a little movement between the grip and camera. If you hadn't had a genuine Nikon grip before it would be harder to notice these differences as they are quite good copies but I doubt they are from the same factory like someone have said they are.

What it comes down to is price, comparing the price new it's a no brainier that third party is much better value as the Nikon grips are over priced for what they are. When comparing second hand then it's a difference story, if it's possible to get a Nikon OEM grip at around 2-3 times the price of a third party grip then I feel the Nikon OEM grip is the better choice.

You did well, for that price it's definitely worth it.
