Yes
Does anyone know of a better battery to use for the HTC Desire? The one that came with the phone is not good at all. I charge it in the morning and by 1500PM it has already run out of charge.

Not really, no. Theres a bunch of 'improved capacity' batteries on Amazon and the like but they're rarely as good as the HTC battery.

Best you can do it turn off unnecessary features (wifi when not connected, gps etc.)

Most of them are likely to fair no better - there's only limited space in that little battery compartment, after all. Best to make sure you treat the battery as well as possible, limit screen brightness, syncing only when necessary; I know that means you can't absolutely max out your phone, but these things are a compromise.

odd i charge mine overnight and have wi-fi, bluetooth, email sync every 15 mins, facebook and twitter syncing automatically, other apps using data, gps on etc etc and i normally have at least half the meter left.

GPS is the real battery life eater. And high screen brightness. The screen on the Desire, and especially on the Desire HD, absolutely eats battery - the one on my Desire HD accounts for 50% of the battery usage, even at 20% brightness (which is fine for most scenarios - I jack it up to 50% in sunshine).

Turn off background data transfers, unless you want it on. But, I keep mine on and unless I'm constantly using it it will last over 24 hours.

They do use up a lot of battery, but I don't think you can get better ones than the HTC ones.

The other thing that kills the battery is if it can't connect to the phone network, I had that with my phone in the house where I had no signal. Solved by sticking it on 'Airplane Mode' and changing networks.

From what I've read it just sits there going 'Are you there yet ?' continuously.

I usually have Bluetooth, wireless, gps and everything else turned off. I don't even use it for email as I use my blackberry for email.

The only apps I have running are mostly Facebook and the whatsapp messenger. I will try the option of decreasing the brightness to see if that helps as the brightness is always at maximum.

I’m not endorsing this model as I don’t have an HTC phone I have something similar to this for my iPhone and have found it to be a life saver when I manage to flatten the battery half way through the day. I charge it overnight and keep it handy mine will charge from a 20% remaining battery back up to a 90% remaining battery life.
