Heading to bruges in March, taking my D3100 .. and the missus.

I have the 1 battery that came with the D3100, still working fine, easily lasts a day. I was thinking a spare would be handy and I'm looking at the cheap 3rd party stuff, are these reliable, should I stay well clear?

Amazon with a UK address not H/K or china, I have a 3rd party for my 7D as a spare, no probs at all, works fine only camera does not recognise it,
Jim

I have used 3rd party batteries bought from amazon for my Nikon D700 and Fuji X100.All of them have worked fine at least for 2 years.

Christ, this has been discussed to death before. Does nobody do a Forum search any more?

For what its worth I use decoded 3rd party batteries for my Canon stuff. Never had an issue.;)

Never happened to me in 10 years and more of using them. If you are buying from reputable seller I see no issue.

7dayshop sell very good 3rd party batteries have had a few, no porbs.

I bought a 3rd party battery for my 60D from 7dayshop over a year ago. I don't even notice anymore which one i'm using as it's as good as the canon original one.

I've got a shed load (about 10) of BP511A generics mostly from 7 day shop - they've all been fine. The Exploding /going on fire thing is usually to do with fakes or stupidly cheap Chinese copies with no quality control.

They are the spawn of the devil, they will destroy your camera, your lens, your marriage, your life and your final resting place.

If you listen to some.

Otherwise, in the real world , they will be fine, just get them from 7 Dayshop,Amazon themselves or similar.

Another vote from me for 3rd party batteries from 7Dayshop. I have had one for a couple of years now & it has given me no problems. Think that it also has more capacity than the original Nikon battery that I have.

Thanks for the replys.

Picked up a battery from 7DayShop. Also got a USB on the go cable for backing up to my phone on err the go :D .. So 2 birds with one stone there.

I just had a thought though will my Nikon charger work with this?

Should do - if it doesn't you can pick up generic chargers cheap , and they'll work with your Nikon batteries too

+1 for 7Dayshop.
I have one of their replacements for my 30D and it's just as good as the Canon original.
On the other hand I have a replacement bought from Amazon for my NEX-5, and it doesn't seem to last as well as the Sony original.
It's quite new though, so it may improve when it's been cycled a few times.
7Dayshop didn't do a replacement for the Sony, otherwise I would have gone back to them.

I used to use just the makers ones in my Nikons, but since going ccs,the battery don't last so long,so being trying 3rd party ones,no problems so far :)

Would you think twice about taking them on a plane since the BBC article on exploding batteries?
