Should I or shoud't I?

I have found a 3rd party grip with 2 batteries for my 550D on EBAY from link delight for £56.99 free postage

I have seen a few debates on here about 3rd party batteries already. but has anyone tried the grip.

I have not had the camera long and don't want to damage it. But I also cant afford to buy genuine. Should I save up the £210ish needed or go for it?

I know the batteries are chipped in the 7D but don't know about the 550D. I use a third party grip and third party battery with no problems at all and it displays the battery info on screen.

Should be ok. I had that grip brand for a 40D and worked great.

I also have three 3rd party batteries for the 550D and those work fine as well.

i don't know about the link delight grip but when I had my 450 I used the opteka one. Great value, same price as the link delight one at around 50 quid, came with two batteries and some cleaning essentials etc. It felt a little different to the camera body and certainly cheaper, flimsier plastic. The jog wheel was also recessed into the grip a little more than I'd have liked meaning it took a bit of effort to use it. Other than that it was £50 very well spent.

it'll be fine. spend the cash on stuff that goes in the optical path :)

A couple of people at work have suggested Opteka, but I found they hadn't released one yet for 550D. I mailed them and had a reply saying they will have one out in a few weeks.

But now this changes the question

Opteka or Link Delight?
Are the batteries the same from both?

I hope this tread helps other 550 users decide :)

I was looking at the Phottix Battery grip for the Canon 550D (BP-550D), here's alink for a review http://cheesycam.com/?p=1176/ , available from ebay.

I contacted Phottix UK about availability over here: "We will not be stocking the 550D Battery Grip in the UK at this time."

Look for one made by MeiKe on the bay, there's a UK based company that does them. The one I use on my 5D2 is identical to the Canon one, to the point where the battery door catch is better than Canons.

I think I paid about £55 for mine.

It arrived Friday (it was a MeiKe) fits, looks and works great. It took just short of 2 weeks to get here from Hongkong and yes the battery door catch is much better, came with 2 batteries and a free wired remote trigger inc post £49.99

I purchased my grip from Link Delight (D200/S5Pro) over 2 years ago never had problem with it. As for batteries, try 7dayshop. Found their batteries to be just as good, if not better than Canon/Nikon originals. At one time you could by a pair of BP511 for less than a tenner, brilliant!
