Yes
What are my options?

I usually just use hotel wifi. But this time we'll be touring through several countries and stopping at several hotels, many for just a single night.

From what I can see, the best provider in Europe is probably t-mobile.

Does anyone have any experience of buying a 3G dongle (or the sim card for one) when overseas?

Thanks

John

No experience but I seem to remember someone getting a real shocker of a bill after a trip abroad so take note of usage costs before you decide on one provider.

I use t-mobile abroad and they now automatically direct you to a thing called Boosters when you connect from another country - 10mb for £5, 20mb for £10 or 50mb for £20, a lot cheaper that the old £7 a meg I'm used to having to pay. Have had to use several hundred megs before while abroad on a job and the bill was.. errm.. large!

Yes. That's precisely why I'm asking ;)

Just read that about t-mobile (boosters). Unless someone can advise about buying a data sim card when overseas then it looks like t-mobile.

Vodafone have just changed their roaming charges, think Europe is £4.99 for the first 25mb then £4.99 every extra 25mb.

Other option would be to get a payg card in each country and pay local rates

When I travel home i tend to buy local sim card for internet access....comes out much cheaper then using UK sim card...

I was using my HTC Hero last time with my Tmob card in it on few occassions and paid small fortune later :(

I wouldn't advise on using UK sim card as a modem on a laptop....
