Hi,

I recently got a film scanner(Minolta F-2800) and its got an SCSI cable. I thought it would connect to my laptop(IBM T42) seeing it had a 25pin on one end but the they are too small. Can someone with a film scanner+SCSI have any advice on how I can connect it to my laptop. Thanks.

25 pin is parallell... you can get a pcmcia card to scsi interface, or even parallell to scsi.

the other end of the cable that connects to the scanner is 50pin.
 
yes... but you still need an interface card or the usb adapter (the usb option is pricey)
 
Looks OK assuming the cables all fit together and you don;t use Vista or 7.
 
I'm sure Joxby had similar problems with one of these. He'll be around in a bit I'm sure or you could drop him a PM.
 
I had a similar problem with my Nikon Coolscan III and my PC laptop, I managed to get a SCSI to USB cable but it was a bit hit and miss and drove me nuts so I got rid of it in the end.

The conclusion I came to was that you need an old school desk top PC with as high spec you can get running something like XP or even something earlier and it needs to be fitted with a proper SCSI card. Even then you may have problems with software/hardware clashes.

If that doesn't work you might have to bite the bullet and get yourslf a newer scanner :D
 
I have read that using SCSI gives you better transfer rate then via usb.

Might go to tottenham court road tomorrow and see if any of the stores there got something.
 
I don't want to be the prophet of doom but I tried a couple of years ago and had no luck at all. Most of them didn't evem know what I was on about and the rest just shrugged and said they hadn't seen any for years. You may be lucky and find one in a 'bits n bobs' box but I wouldn't hold your breath :(
