I'm not sure if this has been mentioned at all but I was watching a Lightroom tutorial video the other day and found something that I didn't know was possible.

I have always had a bit of a love/hate relationship with HDR, I hate the over done stuff, and can never get to grips with Photomatix for more subtle work.

You need to have photoshop for this method, but as someone who is used to Lightroom, it's much easier than other methods I have tried.

In LR4, you need to select the files you need to merge, right click, edit in, and merge to HDR pro. CLick on 32 bit, and OK. You then save the file as a TIFF and that should automatically be reimported into Lightroom. At this point it will look pretty crap.

You now have a "Super Raw" file. Check out the exposure slider, it now goes up to +10 stops.

You can now tweak the shadows, contrast, and even use adjustment brushes and graduated filter.

I reworked this file by this method...

Reworked this using LR4 and photoshop now that you can edit 32 bit files in LR.

Had me opening up Photoshop and scratching my head there for a wee while

It doesn't automatically open in my Lightroom 4 but once I imported it, does what you say on the tin.

Thanks for the info.

You don't need lightroom for this to work, just load your pics in the merge to hdr then save as tiff, then open in camera raw in CS6 (doesn't work is cs5 as it's raw doesn't support 32bit)

I'm sure that's right Wayne, but for someone without CS6 and who generally does 99% of editing in Lightroom, this was a great find.
