Hi,

ok, what would be your upgrade advice from the 30D, I shoot mostly wildlife, family, some sports and the occasional landscape. Current lenses can be seen in my sig.

I am looking at either the 1D MkII or MKIIN as I don't feel the 40D is enough of an upgrade for me, I'm not too fussed about dropping down in crop factor as I can get pretty close to any wildlife with the 500mm and my stalking skills :D Looking at used prices I can get the MKII for around £1000 but the N is a little more than that.

Main criteria for upgrade is faster, more accurate AF than the 30D, any thoughts, I know this same question has been asked many times already, now it's my turn

Thanks,

Mike.

Sorry cannot advise they are so far beyond my price point there in the next galaxy, sorry

Well if your looking for better AF then go for a 1D or 1Ds.

Looks like you want to shoot every kind of topic, so why don't you get a 1Ds MKII and then keep the 30D as a 2nd body. Then you can use the 30D for sports and wildlife and the 1Ds for landscapes and family stuff.

You could go for a 5D instead, but the AF is similar to the 30D.

What's your budget?

Your 500mm will get you as close to the subject on a 1d as it does on your 30d.

Hi,

not looking to spend as much as the 1Ds, and the 30D would have to go as couldn't afford to have both unfortunately, I'm only thinking about it just now as the missus was made redundant in December and no job as yet, but as you can see I have plans for when she does start work again :D.

I was looking at the 1D MKII etc as they will be around my budget.

cash back in March!

I'd be inclined to stick with the body and invest in some more glass there are some pretty big holes in you line up and you could fill on or two with some nice L glass for the price of a 1D MKII.

Hi,

I disagree, I use the 50 for family stuff, the macro for ... well macro and the 500 for wildlife, as mentioned I only do occasional landscape so I don't really miss a lens for that, having previously owned a 16-35 L, 17-85, 18-55, 28-70L AND 100-400L, the line-up I have now is down to what I shoot and I am more than happy with it so a better body is how I want to go. Only lens I might add would be a UWA but for all the times I would use it I would rather get the body first.

30D is a 1.6 crop where as a 1D is a 1.3 crop....so I think you'll find that it won't;)
