Help please. My 30D works fine on the 'auto' setting but when I set it to shoot in aperture priority (or any other setting) when I press the shutter button nothing happens. Have tried swapping batteries but at a loss what else can be wrong.
I would be grateful for any advice.

Thanks

I have just done a quick google search, there is some info out there regarding a problem with the 30D and it's shutter mechanism. I'm sorry I don't know enough about this to comment further, I'm sure there is someone on here that is in the know! Curious as to the out come though as I'm in the market for a XXD body of this kind!

Is anything blinking in the viewfinder?

The circular green icon in the bottom right hand corner of the display is the focus confirmation indicator and you only see this if auto focus is selected and when using auto focus the camera will not take a picture if focus can not be achieved.

You could check this by switching to manual focus and if the camera will then shoot auto focus confirmation is your problem. What is stopping it achieving focus and why it works in Auto mode are the next questions.

Switching to manual focus all works ok (in all shooting modes) but switching back to auto focus only works in auto mode! Looks like I must have a problems on the sensors most probably on the body as it doesnt matter which lens I select I still get the same problem.

Thanks for your help,
Ian

Have you set it to back button focus on manual mode?

Dont think so...dont know how to :'(
I have found info on another forum that suggests this could be caused by the camera getting wet. So thanks to my local branch of Currys Ive purloined a few silica gel sachets and Ive sealed the camera in a bag for a couple of days to see if this will work.
Cheers :D

You'd be better off just putting it somewhere warm if you want to try drying out! But have you tried doing a factory reset and tried a different lens?

Thanks Steve, I'll try the factory reset option if I can figure how to do it!
I'll try and find a warm spot as it may be quicker! Yes Ive tried a different lens to no avail!
Cheers,
Ian
