I've now gone through 2 30D bodies and each has suffered from front focusing with a new 600/4 I.S. lens...suffice to say, I'm not a happy camper. Recalibration of the camera should fix it, but I pay postage it seems :( and if it goes back to Canon, I could be without a camera for the best part of a month :(
Warehouse express have been great... should I take the chance and swap out for a 1d MKII N? I'd hope that would be fine as far as focus accuracy? From a bit of reading on the web, seems the 30D has caused problems with some fast lenses.

btw, lens is fine, works on 20d

Only down side is you lose a bit of reach, and a fair bit of dosh, go for it

Sorry to hear about your focus problems Andy... that's really unlucky.:(

If you can stretch to it, and knowing the sort of stuff you do, I can only heartily recommend the 1DMK2N. The AF system is in a whole other league, blisteringly fast, and it's built to last.

I'm glad the problems don't seem to be with the lens.:)

Just an update, after 2 dodgy 30D's... Stuck a 1Ds MkII on the lens and perfection. Makes you wonder what Canon are up to.

cheers,
Andy

Hi Lynda, I wouldn't be particularly concerned if I were you.... it doesn't seem a widespread problem and any calibration will be fixed under warranty.

The symptom is, you focus on a certain point and all looks well in the viewfinder, but when you look at the result, the camera has actually focused in front of where it should've. For some forms of photography, this isn't a big problem but absolutely critical for myself.

regards,
Andy
