30d And metz problem.Help please

Hi All

I have just bought a 30d which is totaly fine but i also have just bought a metz hammer head off ebay, the gun fires every time but will not sync with the camera......

i am doing somthing wrong or is the sync lead abit dodgy?
 
is it a new hammerhead or an old unit?
 
old 1 realy..... as i say if firers fine but i think its gone off once when sync up!

i am thinking it's the lead but i thought id ask and see if any 1 new anythign else it may be with the cam
 
The camera fires a metering flash before the main flash, it's possible that if the Metz is old it is firing at full power on the first flash and cannot recharge in time to fire again a split second later?
 
HHmmmm it is possible but when i fire it with the test button on the back it still fires in time and charges fast enough.

We're talking 1/1000th of a second between them or something like that, you'd never know from looking that there were two flashes one after the other. I have the problem when I try to use one flash on the camera and another off camera as a slave, the preflash sets off the second gun before the main one and I lose the light from it.
 
i think it is the sync lead, if fires ok but just doesn't fire when sync to the camera
 
its an old unit i think 45 CL-5 i am sure it's just the lead, ive used a metz unit with digital before
