I see from this article https://www.digitalcameraworld.com/...egged-thing-launches-axis-camera-strap-system they will be launching a QD quick release system. This looks quite interesting as the strap appears similar to my Black Rapid but with the option of a quick release - which the Black rapid doesn't have.

I did some online research and primarily in the USA people were using the QD quick release system as I understand its main design is for firearm straps. The only negatives I could find were the occasional report of the QD not fully locking but these seemed to be when a lower quality PD connection was used. I did consider the possibility of converting my Black Rapid strap but it would have required sewing ability well beyond my capabilities. The only other issue is the system will require the use of PD compatible lens plates, which may not be especially cheap but its good to have another option to Black Rapid or Peak Design

This review shows in a little more detail how the QD system works https://www.dpreview.com/opinion/4953283281/magpul-ms4-camera-strap-qd-peak-design

Kirk Photo offer QD attachments with metal "loops". I attached two Peak Design anchors to the QD attachment which allowed me to use it with my existing straps, which are all adapted to, or, natively use the PD connectors. My camera L bracket and lens plate for a telephoto lens had QD sockets.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anyone in the UK that sells Kirk Photo kit for several years now. I did however find some UK field sport suppliers that sell them, but can't find the details now.

But they are here in the Kirk Photo Catalogue

Been using the QD system for a long time, mainly Kirk (KES) L brackets and lens feet. Used to get them from WEX but they don't appear to stock much of a range now. The Kirk kit works really well with the Magpul QD system, I've retrofitted Magpul MS-4 adapters to a couple of Black Rapid slings and they work a treat. Always sourced the Magpul kit from Brownells in the UK.

Thanks for that. I did some more research and found a US photographer doing the same. I find the Peak Design strap less comfortable than the Black Rapid but that's just a personal preference. As you say finding a supplier for the plates in the UK isn't easy

Can I ask please was it just a question of fitting the Magpul adapter to the Black Rapid carabineer or did it require more fettling ? Again finding suitable plates over here might be the tricky part

I prefer the Optech slings over the Peak Design straps.

The link suggested by @gcgraphs at least provides a source for the "swivel" to adapt exsting straps,

Some of the existing Three-legged Things brackets have QD sockets, so with the new straps, I assume we will see it becoming more common in their plates and brackets

I use the BlackRapid Sport (which has a QD fitting) on Kirk plates and feet. I bought most of these from Wex. Latterly I bought a Z5ii Kirk plate from a German retailer https://www.photoproshop.com

It looks like Black Rapid have discontinued the QD sport strap but as others say, Magpul straps are available.

I recently bought an L bracket for my OM-1 from Three Legged Thing. Once on my camera I fitted it to my BR Sport strap and after walking a few steps it fell off. This was not a poor connection by me as I tried it several times and each time after walking several steps it fell off. I always use an additional safety tether so no harm done. I've never had a problem with Kirk plates/L brackets, nor with Hejnar replacement feet for telephoto lenses.

Not all QD ports and connectors are compatible with others.

That isn't good. Did you inform Three Legged Thing about this issue?

I unpicked the stitching on the BR strap and removed the carabiner, slid on the Magpul Adapter and re-stitched.

The second image shows it fitted to a D850 with Kirk (KES) L Bracket.

Someone showed me a video of this issue, they had a few differnt ones, and some just didnt fit properly, if I remember right the fitting was slightly too short or too long? and didnt clip in and lock.
