I have just got my hands on a Canon 70-200mm F2.8 IS and just wanted to find out what a 2x TC will reduced the F stop by? I have a 1.4x which takes it down to F4.
 
I think you will find that for most of the Canon Bodies, auto focus stops working with the 2x extender altogether. It's only the 1Ds etc that it continues to work with.

This isn't a problem with some subjects but for for sports it's pretty pointless.
 
f5.6, AF still works on 5d2 and it's still good for tracking race cars.

Wrong.

Non 1 series bodies can still focus with a 2x TC, it just depends on the lens. A 70-200 2.8 will AF on a 30D for example with a 2x TC attached, Af speed is reduced though as you would expect. Most non 1 series bodies can focus at F5.6 and some people have reported them still working at F8 although theyre not 'rated' to this.

To OP I have a spare one im selling if you are needing one.
