Was wondering which 16GB CF do the Nikon D300 support? I currently using 1x 8GB sandisk (the 30mb speed one) and 1x 4GB sandisk and a few 1x GB jessops CF.

Was checking on some 16GB CF and it seems their are some cheap ones like transcend and kingston that sell around £20 ish.

Or should I get 2x 8GB sandisk instead.

I've always used Sandisk, but do have a Kingston, the only one to every play up was the Kingston, therefore, I'll only be using the 1 Brand.

Rob.

I have had several brands, and really couldn't tell them apart, except the slow ones were actually slow.

16gb fast one would be a better investment, and certainly a lifesaver whilst on longer holidays.

I'm not sure about Nikon compatibility as i'm a Canon man. Sandisk make pretty good cards, but i'd go with two 8Gb cards rather than one 16Gb. If you rely on one large card and it goes wrong then you lose everything.

that argument used to be used with 2X 128MB cards instead of one 256MB :p

is cheaper to buy 2x 8GB CF instead of 1x 16GB CF.

I think 8GB is plenty enough on the D300 anyway. I shoot 12bit RAW on the D300 and it can take around 390 ish shots. Thats plenty enough, i'm not fuss about swapping cards.

I got 2 300x and 2 600x Duracell 16Gb CF cards from www.7dayshop.com and they are excellent. The speeds quoted are reached when transferring images to the computer and the prices are excellent as well.

Those are too small for the CF slot on Nikons.

I did buy some Kingston cards a while ago, they were extremely slow. I gave them away to a mate, and he gave them back! Gratitude!

I use the transcend 400x in the 7d which fly. I used to stick with Sandisk purely for the name but have not had a problem since switching...

Never had any problems with Transcend, get the 400x, only ever had to send back 1 card out of many and it was a Kingston

Depends what your shooting, I know folk who work for marathon photos try to get two shot of EVERY runner, your looking at taking thousands of shots a day.

As for cards Lexar, Sandisk Transcend all the same quality.

Me I'd go for at least 16GB, you'll get many more years use of it, (who still use 1GB cards from their 30D / D70s days on their new 1DX or D4 )

i don't shoot marathon or heavy sport stuff so i won't be snapping away. Do wedding and landscape mainly and social sport/wild life the odd time.

I probably just grab a 8gb sandisk and 16gb transcend.

I'd always get 2 of whatever size.

If one corrupts half way threw a day shooting (doesn't happen often but it's possible), you can put the other one in and recover the previous card when you get home.

If you just have the one card and it corrupts, you either stop shooting for the rest of the day, or you wipe the card and start again.

I use a couple of 8GBs as well as a few other smaller ones (4gbs) for those "just incase" moments.

Also if I'm shooting multiple things or w/e I like to use a card per subject type. I don't like sifting through one card at the end of the week with 100000 images on it.

With the price of cards over HHS Xmas period I bought 4x 32gb cards. I don't fill the cards up in use but the capacity is tere if needed and as said if one does get corrupted can switch cards and recover at home...

Exactly that. In fact I think you may have read my mind :)
