2nd hand Nikon Lenses

I have been there, they are great but a bit over priced for 2nd hand stuff.

Your paying for the customer service which is legendary.

I asked them to quote for purchasing some stuff rom me. Their prices were ridiculously low. 1/3 of the going price. Whilst I realise they have to make as profit, that's a little too much for me.

Agreed. It's worth paying for the peace of mind you get with Grays. Not only do you get a 12 month guarantee on used goods. The service is incredible.

Would one of the satisfied customers care to expand on just what makes Gray's service so special?

Perhaps they check over the 2nd-hand gear, unlike my experience with Ff-you-know-who?

Yes i would be also interested to know, after all there is only so much an assistant can do, and if it's going to cost me 50 quid on top of the normal price, i fail to see how this is justifiable :shrug:

Its a number of things;

Firstly, they know what they're talking about, all the staff that I have spoken to have been knowledgable and happy to go the extra mile (photos of bits and bobs, info on specific items.) All of their second hand gear comes with a 12 month warranty which I've heard good reports about from friends who have used it.

Personally I prefer to build up a relationship with a company rather than always buying the cheapest and quite simply Grays were the nicest to deal with.

When I switched from Canon to Nikon I sourced a lot of my gear from Grays and at one stage some lenses arrived that I wasn't happy with - they were just as described but I didn't like the feel of one of them - the lens just didn't float my boat. Changing that lens meant I'd have to change my whole lineup which I'd just bought. I gave them a call and they were happy for me to ship the whole lot back and arrange a different order.

Bottom line for me is that Grays fill me with confidence when I'm ordering from them and that is worth a lot on its own - they have an excellent reputation with good reason.

I may be the unlucky one, but I didn't have great service when I bought from them. The 28-70 F2.8 (mint) i ordered came without a lens hood (which they then ordered for me admittedly), and then a colleague went over to them, and bought a secondhand 105 F2 DC from them (i think) and had to return it as it was faulty.

Have dealt with Mifsuds a number of times, and also Matt at MPB, both have given me better service than Grays.

Grays refuse to tell you how old any lens is what theyre selling quoting some pompus rubbish about "its the quality of the gear and not the age which counts" well im sorry but to me age is a massive factor in a purchase and they lost a potential £5,400 sale simply because they wouldnt tell me how old a used 400mm f/2.8 lens was.

Shoddy, very shoddy.
