Hi all,

Been a long time since I last visited here. I used to own a 350D when they were 1st released and sold it on about 4 years ago now, so a long time out of the loop.

Now I have a family, spending more time in places I can shoot, I am looking to invest in another DSLR. It doesn't need to be new, I am looking at spending ~£200 on just a body (looking on ebay, I can pick up a 30/40D for this price) as I want to make sure I am happy shooting again and it won't just sit in the cupboard.

Any recommendations or should I also factor in Nikon to the equation?

Any helpful suggestions / comments would be useful

Thanks

40D would be a nice camera to have and a significant upgrade over your old body

Another vote for the 40D

I've had a few cameras come and go but I wouldn't part with mine.

I was hoping you might say this, seems like a no brainer I think. Once I am back into it, I could upgrade as and when but feature wise / price point I wasn't sure if a Nikon equivalent would fair better?

Depends what you like really, some would say the 7000 is better than my 60D / 7D and better image quality..... I would argue different, like everything the reality is that everything is relative to what the user likes or doesn't.

You could always try the feel of the nikons as in my eyes the overall handling would be the decider as image quaility for the most part is similar in their range of bodies between the two makes.

I picked up a cheap 20D in the end, this will ease me back into things before splashing out if I can get back into it.

Cheers for the comments and advice all.
