Anyone got any recommendations for a decent 27" monitor I've had a look around and I found the following on Aria's site

Iiyama ProLite B2712HDS £276
Viewsonic VX2739wm £305
or
Dell Ultrasharp U2711 £881

I was looking to spend up to £400 but I've not found anything so far in that price range. There seems to be a huge gap in prices, I don't know if that is just Aria's limited stock or if there really isn't anything that bridges the gap between these monitors.

Does anyone have the Iiyama for example is it ok for Photoshop and maybe a little gaming but not much. I've read some reviews and it seems to be ok for what I want I just wondered if anyone had any first hand experience of it.

For around £400 the best monitor for running things like photoshop and general viewing is the Dell U2410 or HP ZR24w. Both are 24 inch monitors, but are both 8 bit IPS panels in stead of the 6 bit TN panels in the cheaper 27 inch monitors. This means you get a wider colour range, wider viewing range, and generally better image quality.

If you can stretch to the Dell U2711 then it is even better as it has the higher resolution, H-IPS panel, and a large range of connectivity options.

Thanks for the info I would be more likely to get the 24" as I can't stretch to the 27" Dell. I suppose I could always use the 24" alongside my current 22".

Apple's new monitor at 27" is quite simply the most gorgeous monitor on the planet :) It even works with Windows computers. :suspect:

I have the Iiyama model you mention and have so far found it very nice to work with and use. Depends though as if your serious about editing then you (and I but alas i do not have the pennies) should go IPS.

One thing that I have always wondered about the supplier the OP mentions is their charge for a dead pixel check on monitors.

To my mind, it always means that you either pay a surcharge for your monitor or could have a higher chance of getting a monitor with the odd dead / stuck pixel. (Maybe that's just me being cynical).

To balance my concerns about their pixel policy though, I will add that I have had good service from them when I have ordered from them.

I have the 26" version of the Iiyama, and have for around 18 months, and it's simply fantastic value. Only issue, is some bleed at the bottom of the screen which is only noticable at silly angles when I stand up, not when I'm working. Got the ps3 hooked up to it too and the quality is beyond that of my HD telly, and for working on photoshop I've found it to be good too.

I have the IIyama ProLite E2710HDS

Technically I have no idea if it's a good or bad panel.

What I can say is that other than having to drop the brightness to 75% it is sharp and crisp, has good colour rendition and calibrated well with my Spyder. It has no dead or stuck pixels but then again I've never had the missfortune to own any monitor that has. This is the third IIyama I have bought so they can't be too bad :D

I think for those of us who have only so much to spend you wouldn't be unhappy.

The only difference between the B and E models is the stand.

I'm very keen to get an IPS monitor (I'm about to buy a desktop), but sometimes it's hard to tell if they're IPS or not. Maybe it's just me being thick....

Just got the U2311H Dell monitor, really pleased with it, well within your budget.
