weekly 2021 TP52 - week 52 - SHOWCASE (sort of)

Very effective - I knew I had seen the film, but was struggling to find the name. Great colours!
 
Not seen the film but a quick IMDB search indicates perhaps I should!

I think the purple lighting gives it a very sci-fi vibe which complements your subject well and hits the theme on the head.

I've not seen it for years, so I don't know how kind time will be to the special effects. But it echoes very much the modern idea that commercialism should come before conservation.
 
Can't watch the film anymore. The little robots at the end make me very upset, it's all so sad. That said it is a wonderful film and at least some humans bothered to put some elements of the Earth in a (initially) safe place in the movie, not something anyone in a position to help is doing anything about now. With idiots like Brazil's Bolsanaro on a quest to destroy the Earth I fail to see how we can save it. Still at least Trump has gone for now so for the environment, that's good news.

Sorry, this isn't the place for politics. Good fit for the theme.
 
Not a film I had heard off, I had wondered if it was in connection with "The colour purple", which I had considered for a little while. Much more interesting than that though, thanks for the explanation with it.

Thanks for reminding me about another film that I must watch again. The colour in this really suits the sci fi element.
 
It's one of those films that impacts you in a couple of different ways.

As I kid I was sad because of the anthropomorphism of Huey, Louie and Duey. (Not that I knew what anthropomorphism was when I was a kid.)

As an adult, I'm far more saddened by how easily I believe a decision like that would be made in real life. Oh, you have the last flora and fauna on earth? Get rid of that, we've got some stuff that needs transporting somewhere.

I've seen the film (I'm not sure I would have got it directly from just your photo, I'm not good at guessing stuff like this).
Nice pinky, purple tones.
 
Excellent idea. Works really well and is an inventive take on the theme. I think the one you chose for the main pic thread is by far the best. It's not immediately obvious that it's been stitched, but if you spend time looking at it you can tell. That's why it's my favourite.

I think, with a little bit of additional PP - it would be possible to make it harder to detect. By blending the sky for example, so you don't get the hard line down the centre.
 
The reflected half shots are a great idea, the symmetrical compositions it creates are really cool. Something definitely worthy of further experimentation. I really like to reflected boat shot too, the light is beautiful, and again the symmetry works well.
 
Yeah you could easily smudge the sky, and you wouldn't know it was mirrored. That kind of image might work well as a website banner or something.
 
Half
I do like the minion (half a minion), but the shot you've used in the main thread is the one I would have used too. A good bit of innovative thinking.
 
Great idea for the theme and it really works well, I think I prefer the one without the sunbursts as it makes you look at it to appreciate what you've done with it. Lovely colours too.
 
The slight shift in the middle makes me think of the starting point for a kaleidoscope!
 
Cleverly done. To me it looks a little like how my phone panoramas sometimes turn out, with a bit of a bend in the foreground.

Week 09 - Reflections and low-key technique

Basically wanted to challenge myself this week as as soon as the theme and technique were posted, everyone said they're going to hard to combine. I think I've achieved it. First time I've tried shooting anything low-key.


Bought this for my wife's birthday last year as she's always wanted one.

However, even when we weren't in lockdown, one-on-one lessons have not been possible. So it's pretty much sat on its stand ever since.

Very nice! Personally I think I would have chosen the third from your set, but I think you have met the theme and technique well.
 
The 3rd is the best shot, just enough detail to make it clear, overall an excellent image.

I too am drawn to number 3. I think it is low key, either way, I love the lighting and the details brought out. Good work Kell.
 
Nice lighting and low key. Not really getting "reflection" though, and I;d have wanted the bottom of the sax in shot too. Lighting is bang on though :)
 
Very low key. I think I'll go for #4.
 
You've nailed it on both counts, fantastic! For me it's number 4, that mellow brass colour is just lovely
 
Aand number 2 for me... I prefer it because I can see the whole instrument, and I like how the lighting is much more subtly hinting at form & shape. Number 3 is a bit too contrasty for my liking.
 
Reflection
So I agree with the others that #3 is the stand out image for the theme, but they are all good and could make a nice triptych.
 
I'm with the majority - #3 for me too. Beautifully lit.
 
Reflection
Before I had read the other comments it was the third image I liked best, it has an interesting angle. I have a sax that I bought a few years ago as I always liked jazz with sax music a favourite. I did try learning it but have only progressed to the basic notes. In fact the last time it was out of the case I was taking a photo of it suspended by a fishing line for a camera club challenge!
 
The funniest thing about this was one the day she opened it. With no real idea how to make it 'go' she looked at some instructional videos online. The first one opened with a comment along the lines of "We're going to start with a little fingering".

Clearly we're very immature as we found that hilarious.
