Just saw the Oscar nominations for Best Picture;
Bridge of Spies
Brooklyn
Mad Max: Fury Road
Room
Spotlight
The Big Short
The Martian
The Revenant

Now I have only seen two of those, Mad Max and The Martian, but Mad Max Best Picture! :eek: It is one long chase with no depth at all. I'd give it 5/10. If that is considered as one of the best movies of the year, then that is a bad year imho.

Now The Martian, very similar to Gravity a few years ago, entertaining, but a bit far fetched, and shouldn't be one of the best of the year. And I like Sci Fi.

Now I know we all have different tastes, but Mad Max, really! :rolleyes:

yeah I liked Martian as well and have yet to watch brisge of spies and mad max was funny but not that good as a film.

Mad max I thought was far worse than the original film - in fact than any of the series. Sure the effects were stunning, but things like plot, script were sadly lacking.. It was like the director had been told to 'supersize' the original.... Wouldn't have cared if all the characters had been eaten.....

What a strange title?

The Revenant is one of the best films for ages!

Not seen any of them apart from The Martian and that was (for someone who's read the book) a bit disappointing in that it left out an awful lot that it would have made sense to keep in.

I saw Spotlight & Room in the US in November. Both superb, IMO.

Room took a bit of getting into - sounds weird (and obvious, if you've seen it or know the story), but feels vert claustrophobic at the beginning, but turns intern excellent movie.

Spotlight is outstanding and deserves the "gong" IMO. Mark Ruffalo is incredible in it.
