NB: This is an images only thread to showcase previous weeks' POTW.

We've been discussing how best to acknowledge and recognise some of the talent and skill on the forum for quite a while.
Not just the fantastic shots that we see for the competitions and challenges through the year, but the stuff that you as members contribute to the forum on a day to day basis.

So here it is.
From this 1st July onwards, each mod and admin will be looking out for outstanding images posted on the forum and every Sunday night one will be selected as the image of the week.
No prizes I'm afraid, but the member gets to revel in the glory of it and even gets a front page mention on the forum home page.

It's our way of saying thank you to everyone who contributes to keeping the forum going by way of sharing their work.

PS. In case you were wondering, we're using week numbers to identify the winner each week. Makes it easy to find past winners etc, hence the first week is Week 27 commencing the 1st July.

We all agreed that not only did this show a high degree of technical skill, but it was also a unique and fascinating wildlife moment presented with a good lump of humour.

This week has been a tough choice with so many strong photos to choose from.
However, Neil's Malaysia series caught everyone's attention and we all had a personal favourite from among them.

This is the image that stood out for all of us and which we felt really summed up the feel of the place, but the whole thread really is worth a look. It's a fascinating insight into another way of life that most of us will never get to see for ourselves plus some top quality photography to go along with it.

This week's photo of the week goes to Sara for the fantastic image below.

Astro photography is a very specialised field and one that we don't see that much of on the forums.
This example from Sara sums it all up though. An amazing example of the power of photography to show us things that we wouldn't otherwise be able to see.
The technical skill and knowledge needed to produce astro shots of this quality is abundantly clear to anyone looking and reading Sara's explanations.

This is a nebula called Sharpless 2-132 (A catalogue completed by Stuart Sharpless in 1959). Sh2-132 is an emission nebula in the constellation of Cepheus located approximately 10,300 light years away and spans 272 light years across.

This image is a combination of 24 exposures, all at a 30 minute shutter speed.

A couple of folks said that they wanted to see a colour image - So here you go!! Hope you like it!

This week's winner is Laurence with the image below.

Some really beautiful detail has been revealed in this shot and the DoF has been judged perfectly.
Just as importantly, the technical expertise is wrapped up with a strong composition and some absolutely amazing colours.
All in all, we all thought that it was a stunning example of what can be achieved with insect shots.

Well done to Gary for this week's photo of the week.

A lovely lead into the image, strong vibrant colours and the motion in the wheel gives it that extra added interest.
There was something in this one that appealed to each of us and despite there being a lot going on it's managed to avoid looking cluttered. A great balance which gives plenty to look at and hold your attention.

All the best photos provoke some sort of emotional reaction and this really did make all of us smile.
A deceptively simple concept, but with obvious thought to composition, perspective and lighting which makes it into something very special.

Well done Chris on this week's Staff Photo of The Week !!!

This one stood out to all of us for its sheer creativity.
A fantastic example of what can be done with a little thought plus bits and pieces that we all have in the house.
Something that gives some inspiration to all of us for a rainy day and quite possibly the start of a new trend on TP.

What I'd most be interested in is any ideas folks have for other insects/animals/things also made out of leaves or other materials, but comments on this specific image also welcomed

Very well spotted and executed, it's a great example of what looking at something from a different angle can achieve.
It's totally different to the usual architectural shots and we were all drawn into it.

We were all taken in by the drama of the photo.
Not the typical example of this type of shot, but it's one of those where doing something different has really paid off.

Technically very accomplished but also beautifully composed with a great use of the reflection to create symmetry.

This was an image, I never expected to capture during my holiday in Ibiza, but there was a magical and fearsome display of mother nature out towards the Mediterrean sea, and it was ongoing for a few hours, so after a meal with the family, I told my dear wife, I am out to chase a storm, she was concerned but I can say it was truly an experience to have witnessed this display.

I almost left here with my tail between my legs, couldnt get a composition I was happy with. The old wreck has ran aground close to the shoreline and its quite a tight cove. Theres really only one place to catch it from to get some clear sky behind it.

The water was about 2 feet deep so waded out and wedged my tripod into some big rocks. Its a 5 minute exposure with the black glass filter on. After setting the shutter I waded around (up past my wellies) firing the flash gun (from behind a black jacket) to try and throw some light on the boat. I have a mono version thats probably better, will post that soon.

Not sure how much difference the light painting with the flash did but it kept me moving and with the cold seawater over the top of my wellies I 5 minutes in there can feel like a long time :)

A genre of photography that we really don't see enough of on the forum.
A great sense of depth in this one with foreground interest and the shoaling fish and diver adding perspective.

This is a British ship that was carrying supplies to our troops in WW2 when she was sunk to the seabed 32m below by a German plane. This album also contains some images from my previous trip in 2012 using a different camera so clarity and colours will differ between shots.

Congratulations to Matt on this week's Staff Photo of the Week.

Something very different to the usual portrait shots and it really stands out this week.
Piercing eye contact but the distortion of the skin against the glass plus the reflections and water flecks on the glass emphasise that barrier between subject and viewer.
