I started going to Slimming World around this time last year and since then I've managed to lose just over 2 stone in total and more than a few inches around most parts of my body, feels so good. I left the club after a few months however and stayed in the routine I made whilst there and it has done me so much good. More fruit outside of meals, more veg with the majority of my meals and making my own meals from scratch rather than purchasing ready made foods has also kick started my love for cooking.

I still haven't got around to getting a full exercise routine yet but I have a dog and do walking a lot with her. I also can't drive so usually walk to places instead of taking public transport as I hate it. I am thinking about getting a treadmill however and maybe a punch bag as I love that kind of thing!

Well don't for you, great achievement :-)

Regarding the exercise, you don't need to get a treadmill or a gym...there is plenty to do at home that will improve your health.

Things like stair walking are fantastic, running on the spot, body weight exercises and dancing are all great ways to improve your health without even stepping out the front door or spending a monthly amount on a gym :-)

Very true, but as I live at home with the parents they want to get themselves a treadmill so I said that I would give some money towards it and use it. :) Wouldn't hurt to be able to run in the comfort of my own home whilst catching up on a bit of Law & Order or NCIS!

But I've been trying to do things in the house such as cleaning regularly, walking the dog, pottering instead of sitting around all day and I'm pretty much up and down at work as I work in a warehouse so that's a good gig weight loss wise!

2 stone down from this time last year, just by eating healthier really. Using MyFitnessPal to track what I'm eating really helps.

Not following any kind of diet, other than no processed food/sugars.

Now at 3 stone off following SW.. Would like to lose another 1 st 3 lbs so plenty of motivation to continue :)

Why is there no 2013 Getting shredded thread? - Jesus Phil, 10Kgs and 10% BF in 8 weeks, are you on DNP?

10% seems an awful large %BF to lose in 8 weeks is all, how are you measuring it?

Calipers are the way to go, only real accurate way. Stuck at 19% BF here.

Nah thanks. I'm not even cutting at the moment, just noticed it had slowed down and I'm just eating at Maintence.

Wow!!

Good effort Phil

I started my weight loss mid April, nothing extreme, but making better choices at meal times, cutting out snacks, no more full fat coke and paying attention to calories.

Purchase a set of Withings WI-FI scales which record your weight and plots it over time, helps keep me motivated by plotting my weight each day and aiming to lose 2.0lb a week.

So on the 4th of April I weighed 18st 2lb with a BMI of 31.6.

Today I weighed 17st 3lb with a BMI of 30.0.

So hopefully in the next few days I will be out of the obese category :D

Hopefully will be down to around 16 stone by the summer holiday and drop down to 15 if not lower by Xmas (the lower I go the harder to lose)

Hardest part for me is the travelling I do, it is a nightmare when stopping off at services or staying in Premier Inns with the attached restaurants to keep the calories down. Premier Inn do a meal deal of starter, main, dessert, drink and unlimited full english breakfast in the morning for £22.95. Bargain, except it works out at around 3000 calories if you have everything  Add that to a lunch at the services and your daily intake can easily hit over 4000 calories!!!

So cut it all back, I can still have a McDonalds meal for lunch and a meal out in the evening, but by not snacking and only having cereal for breakfast I can still lose weight that day :)

Thats very good progress so far, well done!

This is always the difficult part because there's a long way to go until you see any differences in muscular shape etc but keep going and keep doing what you've done this last couple of months and you will get there!

My biggest advice is to not get too caught up in the details. You mentioned a challenge for you above - it's OK that you put in a few calories but just not all the time. You can get away with the above every 10 days and it won't harm your results but you need to make sure most of your other meals are smallish and low fat.

The best thing you can do is eat intuitively, if you're hungry eat but it's always better to have less than you think you need and eat more sooner than you think you should than to over indulge and then allow yourself to get hungry.

Above all, remember WHY you want to lose weight. If you think about it enough, you won't even need to worry about details :)

Well done again mate.

I want to improve my karting laptimes

I've learnt to accept feeling hungry and realised I basically felt full all the time and ate because of the time and not because I needed to eat.

Going to do a 10 mile walk in September to raise money for the NSPCC, so something to work towards and will start actually going to the gym soon.

Tummy is going down, its my moobies I need to lose, I'm probably getting dwon to the same sort of build as you in the first pic at the mo, so long way to go.

Clear the weeds then plant the flowers ;)

Now at 103kg and 18% BF. best thing to do is cut out sugar and white flour. I find whole grain foods fill me up a lot more.

Got stretch marks on my quads from where they've gotten big though :/

What's your goal weight? I want to be 110 kg at 12% bf then take it from there.

Eh, that's easy too. Weights, change of diet.

I'll he starting that end of August. First need to prove that 7% is maintainable to people.

I'm guessing you don't lift often, or at all, as its not easy, its bloody hard work, and if it isn't you're not doing it right.

Here we go again :0(

Gosh it's frustrating.

Rojibo.

Don't be the guy that tells people they can't do something. If you're right then you'll be proved right, if you find perhaps people make it look harder than it actually is then that will be proved. There doesn't have to be a massive argument about it, if it turns out that I don't know what I'm doing then you will soon see.

If I'm wrong then I'll look a bit silly won't I?!

I will keep updating as I have, you can do the same and in time we will see.

I'm not telling anyone they can't do something. I just resent people assuming its easy to build muscle or work out. It's not. I've never thrown up at the end of a heavy diet, for example.

I have nearly blacked out/thrown up setting a new DL 1rm however.

It is easy to work out - in the sense that its simple to do, obviously you have to put the effort in , but both the machines or the technique with free weights , and the principle are a piece of cake

If you are blacking out or throwing up from your work out, you are doing it wrong and/or over stressing yourself

Anyway this is a thread about slimming and healthy workouts as part of that - I'm fairly sure no one here is going to be up for sharing tales of body building derring do

Yeah the machines are easy to use. However. Let's see your form on the clean and jerk :).

If you don't feel like you're going to die, you're not pushing yourself hard enough.

Frankly i'm sure your form on a clean and jerk is better than mine, however i'm equally sure that i couldnt care less - this is about slimming and healthy living , not body building

If you feel like you are going to die you are pushing yourself far too hard, unless you are a competitive body builder rather than some guy trying to get fit

(as someone who falls into the latter category I don't generally bother with clean and jerk - the only thing i use free weights for is bicep curls - and occasionally bench press if the machines are busy - the steady resistance of a machine is far better, and safer for someone who just wants a regular workout )

Machines being better for you is actually a fallacy and you're probably doing damage to your joints thanks to restricting them to a certain range of motion. Just something to think about. The best things you can do are compound exercises, with a barbell.

Don't worry though, I won't be wasting any more time in this thread. I'll continue to do those "easy" Olympic lifts instead.

Thanks - but i think i'll continue to take the advice of the qualified trainers at the gym instead of some bloke on an internet forum (i'd advise anyone else reading this to do likewise)

The best thing to do....

Is whatever you enjoy and feel happy doing.

And nobody said clean and jerk was easy in terms of technicality but if you're spewing up over it you should really come off your keto diet and have some carbs, it tends to work better ;)

Pete is right. It's a slimming thread. People don't care about your technical movement's or what you feel is the right way to gain muscle.

People in this thread want to know how they can lose weight. Let's try and stick to that :)

Back at home after finishing uni and I'm trying to shed 2-3 stone by September when I start my masters. Got a 3 month gym membership and manual labour temp job so we'll see how it goes.

Aiming to hit the gym and swim 3 times a week. Will be following this thread with interest :)

Nice, welcome to the club ;)

Any changes to your diet??

Cheers Phil

For the last few months and last couple of years to a lesser extent I've had a pretty crap diet, a combination if stress, time and cost didn't help me stay heathy, now I have more time and a temp job I can deal with it better. More fresh fruit and veg, less crap and more variety in food
