2013 Photo52 Challenge : WEEK 52 Water

Btw does the forum have a swear filter? My ipad keeps wanting to change the word "shot" and "shots" to something else...makes for an interesting read sometimes ;)

Does it **** ;)

Well, I'm off to Filey for the week, Should be able to get my re-shoot(s) amongst my holiday snaps, I have a list of things to look for :)

Filey, nice one.

I fixed your comment as well ;)

My 52 mojo has currently left home :coat:

But hubby is home and leaving for the sun this weekend so needing to make the most of time with him. I shall not quit this 52!

there is a lack of explaination of what means what on the spreadsheet.

What do you need explaining?

Jump in, Gregor,

Cheers.

cheers andy, for the re-shoot this week I will just pick another theme from the list seeing as I missed the first 26 :bonk:

In fact I may try and catch up although it may be a bit of a task. Although it will provide some much needed practice.

Marsha

everything nothing explained absolutely incomprehensable.

Should be like this

1 =across the top were the weeks in the year
2 = down one side members
3 = mini pictures in each grid square (which members can put photos into) and when clicked on them links back to original photo.

That way instantly can be seen who posted when and what. Maybe it won't impress but would be far better. Its not rocket science

No need for all that fancy stuff its too confusion. Seems like a bit of showing off computer skills without thought for anyone wanting to use it.
Don't forget many of us old timers never were taught anything about computers or graphics on them. Its assumed nowadays that everyone was taught about computers at school, but how wrong can one get. Computers wern't even thought of when I went to school.

Ok hands up its not something I could do as I was never taught anything about computers which is why its so important to make things easy to understand

My advise is make things simple and easy to understand the existing graph to me and I suspect many others may as well be in Chinese. There is absolutely nothing there showing what anything means.

I had exactly the same problem when looking up a new animal boarding program. Umpteen pages of unwanted useless information, to find anything or to add anything was a nightmare, believe me. When I asked the people who wrote them how many end users they consulted they replied none, which is so typical, and my biggest moan.

Luckily I with a pal who owns another animal boarding establishment and the programmer got together and produced a fantastic boarding program with almost all relevant information on the front page. Ok it took 6 goes to do ammendments to it before it went out for general release but the programmer did his homework first.

my guess is those doing this kind of work are taught how to, which is commendable ,but not taught to think of how an end user finds it, and its one HUGE error by tutors.

Moan over

Hahaaaaaa :D

What would you like to know ??

Square with:

1 tick = 1 shot entered
2 ticks = 2 shots entered
3 ticks..... Etc
'Re-Shoot' squares - I add the amount of shots and the theme you re-shot
Buff square no tick = You need to take a photo

Current members don't really need to look below the date, when you fall more than 8 weeks behind I move you down below to save us all looking up and down the list - So at the moment only the top 37 lines are of interest/current relevance

If you go to the left and BELOW the date there are groups of people and the appropriate ticks under the themes they took shot for

I Have added a Key: for those that are not familiar with it :)

Anything I have missed ??

I'll add you to the spreadsheet :suspect:

Exactly the problem , go here -go there-look up this-look up that-do this-do that- move members up-move members down- replace-don't replace -go back-go forward - add -take away -second chance-jokers -one tick-two ticks-reshoot and goodness knows what else . Totally unnecessary

keep it simple as I posted

Should be like this. Can't be that hard to do surely?????

1 =across the top were the weeks in the year
2 = down one side members
3 = mini pictures in each grid square (which members can put photos into/remove) and when clicked on them links back to original photo.

If I may respectively suggest scrap all that its too messy, Please Please make it SIMPLE. something PEOPLE understand and get away from thinking from a computer point of view. needless to say i wouldn't even attempt to understand how it works or one uses it so i won't

I think that the spreadsheet is just fine and a credit to DK for putting in the time to keep it up to date, partic with the various time frames that the participants in the Challenge work to. I have seen nothing but good comments for DK in setting this up and maintaining it.

I don't see how posting shots in the frames would be easy at all - seems far more complicated than a simple tick to indicate that the week's theme has been completed.

The shots can all be looked at on the thread http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=456017
and then comments made on each thread as necessary thro the links posted by the participants.

I agree with Alan. The spreadsheet looks cluttered because there are soooooo many people on it. DK has done an amazing job keeping tabs on everyone. Last year people updated the sheet individually and for people like me that was a struggle. My Internet mice struggled to keep up and it kept crashing, so having someone else do it is fine by me.

There really are only a few columns you need to understand. The number in weeks across the top, the names down the left (real and TP name) then number of ticks for number of shots per week. A little photo would be a nightmare, especially for those of us that struggle to post only one shot.

Oh and a few of us have our rows a different colour so we know where we are!

Spreadhseet is marvellous as is DK....

I love seeing my nice neat line of ticks moving its way along... :D (struggling for shape of all themes though!!)

I think moving those who are dropping out is great as it brings those still completing more to prominence, and being there at the end will seem more of an accomplishment the fewer there are.

I'm also sure that even in its simplest sense is still a time consuming task, and one that we grateful for having.

Riiiiiiiight

Sorry but dragging a tick to the next box for me is SIMPLE, creating multiple thumbnail/hyperlinks for the weeks when there are 60 to 100 images posted lmao... I have a day job, come to think of it, most of the time it's an evening job too

I respectively say NO

Again I respectfully say NO.

Fine

Just like to say thanks DK for all the work, time and effort you've put in over the past 6 months and hope you continue over the next six months.
( just a thought.....you don't go under another used name such as real speed do you? ) :-) :-)

Sorry all been awol again :nono: Hopefully get caught up again soon.

As for the recent talk about the spreadsheet i see nothing wrong with it!? Why would it suddenly be scraped and done how someone else wants after all this time, no one else has a problem with it and DK does a great job keeping it upto date! :thumbs:To DK and  :cuckoo: to realspeed.

Right... back on a PC so can type properly :)

Thanks for the positive comments Alan, Graham, Marsha, Andy, Anita & Lisa - Really appreciated

I will certainly be doing it again next year but thinking of a probation period for new comers, not going to mess around setting up links to their Avatars and Threads Etc until they post ermmmm what do you reckon... 4 weeks worth of images??

lets face it, it the first 4 weeks we lost 35 people who gave up and 9 that didn't even manage ONE photo

Sadly, it's the same every year so that's probably the way to go for the sake of your own sanity.

BTW I wholeheartedly support the spreadsheet

I think you're doing a fantastic job at maintaining it and it's exactly what's needed for everyone taking part to keep track of where they are.
Playing devil's advocate though, for somebody not involved in the challenge, coming into this thread completely cold and maybe thinking that the spreadsheet is the best way to navigate around all the threads to see what's going on . . . I can see it leaving them scratching their head

there is a lack of explaination of what means what on the spreadsheet.

Bazza, if you want a look at what everyone's up to, check out the "images only" thread instead. Probably a far better aid for the casual browser (as opposed to this bunch of nutters :p )
Watch out though, once you start looking you get sucked in . . . and once they've got you . . .

Ooooo yes that Is fine - Welcome

I'll add you to the spreadsheet :suspect:

Cheers, managed to get three done including this weeks, actually looking forward to the challenge now, If i can keep this up I should be able to catch up pretty quick, only 24 to go to get caught up :D

Hi folks, posting this from Filey to say - The spreadsheet is great DK, think that someone has the wrong end of the stick...

I hope there's room for my re-shoots, I have 5 to process tomorrow when I get home (6 if you include my joke one) :D

Oh and 2 naughty 52'ers to deal with :bat:

:lol::lol::lol:

PS Welcome aboard Gregor, I look forward to seeing your submissions.

Cheers Brian.

This weeks theme is a lot more difficult than I thought. On the face of it it seems pretty simple but when you actually look at it it can be interpreted in many ways, which in turn gives you many options which can sometimes be more difficult as you have too much to choose from.

Anyway looking at the rest of the list I already have a few ideas might need to slow down a bit.

Excellent.... sounds like you will fit in just fine :D

My 52 mojo has currently left home :coat

Don't give in Marsha, I've felt the same over the past 3 weeks, life just takes over not leaving me as much time as I would like spend on each weeks theme.

I'm thinking its like hitting the wall when running, if we just push through it we will get there in the end.:D

I personally don't see anything wrong with the spreadsheet DK has kindly set up.

You've done a cracking job at keeping it up to date, so a big thumbs up from me.

I'll never give up Allie, I've suffered the worst two years of my life for bad stuff happening and general lack of time! I've come this far I'm not giving up now. Drop behind I accept, I just don't bother trying to shoot the themes when I'm not in the mood!

I've got pair done, just needing to post it. Also got my reshoot done yesterday. I've got what can only be described as the PERFECT prop/ props for shape, the joy of young kids, just not had time to work out the best way to shoot it!

Oh and welcome Gregor
