Got to say the opening ceremony of the 2008 olympics must be one of the best I've ever watched. Forgetting their politics for a minute, the displays, colours and everone working in harmony was stunning. A huge effort must have gone into the planning. The pro togs covering the event must have had a field day getting some cracking shots.
 
I've only caught the end when the last three runners carrying the torch were on their way one after another. But even the end and the last 'runner' (if you can call it that) were very impressive. I've just seen a few of the highlights and I think I'll be hunting for videos of it on the net.


I'd suggest changing the thread title to 'Beijing 2008 Opening Ceremony', as I've almost missed it.
 
It was a brilliant display of light and sound.
 
I caught the first half hour and it was pretty awesome. Making husband watch it later on iPlayer :lol::lol::lol:
 
I saw the drummers and that was it. Hopefully that's all I'll get to see of the olympics too.
 
do we honestly think that in 2012 we will top that? Health and safety wont let 600 people light all them fireworks and set them close to people like they did there, and 2008 drummers drumming all at once? Nope. that will exceed noise at work regs, and therefore be restricted. i foresee FAIL coming
 
Missed it but I expect I will get to see it later if they show highlights.

We won't see anything like that in 2012. Photography will be banned completely because of security, pcso's will be having orgasms just thinking about how they will be enforcing stoopid rules they no nothing about :bat: Anyone with a camera will be arrested and carted off to guatamela jail for the duration of the games. Body searches at the stadium gates for cameras. ;)

London 2012, I don't think so. I've been saying all along it will be Paris 2012 and I'm sticking to that, we just won't be ready in time.


The Chinese have done a great job so far and the opening was brilliant.

I'm sick on the UK media going on about human right over there, they should look at this country and see how we fair.

42 days in prison with out trial or charge = UK
Stop and search with out suspicion = UK
No right to protest in the capital = UK
Most surveillance society in the world = UK


I think I'll move to China for more freedom.


Last thing London does not meet WHO air quality standards either.

I'm sure the O.I.C. will lodge an appeal in Europe and the games will go ahead in circa 2014 ;)

Well if I was a blackman in the UK and did that I'd be off to Belmarsh for a few weeks.

The point is the media are slagging China off when they should be concentrating more on our rights or lack on them, but they are too scared because Labour has quashed press freedom over here. They did get reporters sacked and made the BBC apologize for reporting on the dodgy dossier, which all turn out to be true.


Back to the opening ceremony, I wonder how the athletes walking in could be speeded up, I'm sure is great for them, but a bit boring for all spectators.
 
In 2012 we'll have Chas & Dave on the stage singing 'kockerney' songs whilst letting of some fireworks in old milk bottles :)

If you're lucky they'll have the national lottery drawn live as well... :lol:

My father and I were talking about how good it was and how much it cost, he reminded me that after the financial disaster that was Montreal it was sort of agreed that country would no longer try to out spend and out shine each other.
Well china have blown that out the window.

The best part for me was the drumming countdown before the actual start.
