2 speedlites firing

If you have a 580 speedlight it will trigger another 580 or 430
 
I'd go for a 2nd 580 myself
 
I have 2 580s and they're good. They will fire from each other although they can be a bit choosy. I'm going to get a PW for each.

Also got my last - a 580EXII for £255 new from a shop in London
 
Don't get a 430, go for another 580, they are much superior. Go to Ian kerr (kerso) for a better price on a 580, I think.
 
Ive got 2x 580exII and 1x 580ex... the 580ex has a nice switch for choosing master/slave mode, the 580exII is a button function, i was in the same boat as you, and was thinking of getting a 430ex off Kerso, when i got the price for the 580exII off him, i was that shocked i ordered 2.

I paid £225 each on them and im getting £40 cashback on each off Canon, making the 580exII effectively £185... which is about the price a 430EX is at most places. Please dont quote me on the price, check with Ian directly as i did order a few bits so may have recieved a discount.
 
The 580 will trigger another 580 or 430. Only problem is line of sight as they use IR to communicate . The good news is you can control the lighting ratio's of up to 3 separate flash guns, from the master unit.

i think u'll find they dont talk to eachother using IR, its pulses from the actual flash head that does the talking.. still need line of sight, unless you have reflective surroundings in which case they CAN still read the pulses.. but not too great..

Personaly, if there isnt a cash flow problem id leave the ST-E2 and get another 580, it does the same job and you get a flash to use if you need it.. i WAS looking at getting the ST.. but for the price of it.. id rather the extra flash..

Of course i could have my wires crossed.. thats just how iv worked it out.. :thumbs:
 
I'd go for a 430 to go with your 580, unless you are needing massive flash output, the 430 is more than adequate as a second flash.

I use 580/430 combination with ste-e2, with the 580 as the main flash and the 430 as fill flash.
 
It depends on the range and ambient light really, if you are going to be outside pocket wizards will probably be the most reliable, but slightly more expensive. That could be offset by buying a cheaper second flash though.
