2 Older Bodies or one new one ?

Depends on whether you would actually need 2 bodies.
 
classic time to get the pen and paper out and make a list of the for and against...

once this is done the only other possible reason is what you really want:lol:

Seems to be a "no brainer" to me. Unless you need Live View and Video, you'd be throwing away a 1D2 for the sake of a few extra pixels.

Kind of what i was thinking really, but moving away from what I have and buying 2 older bodies, when the Mark II 5d seems so far ahead in terms of MP and the DIGIC 4 processor doesn't seems to sensible?

seems to me reading between the big lines..

you already know what you want .....but you want us to talk you out of it


two bodies is the way .. just cos its new and shiney it wont take a better photo

Two bodies would leave £500 for a nice lens?
 
you've got two sick bodies... do you really need HD video, 21.1mp, live view and 25600 ISO all in one beautifull body ;)

Turn it around....
If you only had a 5D2 and someone offered you a 5D, 1D2 and £500...what would you do?....I know what I'd do.

I'd buy the old 1D2 and spend the rest on a decent lens...
 
neil you want a nice shiny new camera...


but in reality the to bodies will be alot better for you ..

you will never use the hd thingy... and not need the 21mp

but hope you enjoy your new 5d2 when you get it

I offloaded my 5D for a 5D2 and ever since, I keep looking behind the sofa to see where my £1K went :shake:.....it certainly isn't likely to appear infront of me on my monitor.

2 bodies, best to have a back up I'd say.
 
High ISO vs two great cameras that can cover just about any shooting condition that might get thrown at you.

Hmmmm, tough call indeed. :lol::lol:
 
The 5d and the 1d mark2 for me every time.
I see you have landscape and wildlife photos on your site so thats even more of a reason to go with that option for me.

The 1d is a fantastic camera with its servo focus ability for wildlife action or any action and the 5d is highly regarded for landscapes too.

There's also the bonus of having a backup body.

You know what I'll say. I think the 2 option gives versatility - it's how I work. However, the other option to consider (sorry there is a third way) is a 1DsII.

Then you get the lightening AF from the 1D, full frame and within about 4Mpx of the 5DII. The only thing you lose on is frame rate but to be honest I rarely find I use it. Over 85% of my shots taken since I got the Ds are taken with it and the 1D is usually just carried around to give me back ache!
 
Wihtout any doubt get the two bodies. Personally I'd love a 1DII primarily for the AF speed and accuracy but at the moment can'treally justify it.

Given the cash available a 5DI and 1DII would be a great setup, although the 1DsII may also offer the perfect combination of functionality for you....:thinking:

1DII all the way for me though.

The only thing I would add to the 1DII/5D issue is that I found swapping between two very different user interfaces challenging. It is fine if you always have time but if you are shooting to capture the moment and the way to change settings is different it can be tough.

The journey I went was

2x10D - initial digital setup
1x1DII - sold both to get a "pro spec" camera but missed flexibility when shooting from vehicle with big prime
1x1DII+5D - thought this was the ideal. 1D for fast stuff and 5D for detail. Loved the images from the 5D but the interface differences did my head in
2x1DII - perfect from a usability point of view but missed resolution and full frame
1x1DII and 1x1DsII - finally, perfection! Seriously, it's going to have to be a pretty impressive spec to get me to upgrade. The MkIII in either form isn't enough and I plan to sit tight and see what happens but I am still very happy with what I have. The only issue I have with the 1DsII is that it is easy to fill the buffer and it can be slow to flush. This is only an issue with high speed stuff but not a show stopper for me.

I'd go for the two bodies as well. APart from anything else, the speed these things depreciate at nowadays makes it sensible to let someone else take the hit. Give it a year or two and you'll pick up a 5D MkII for a pittance.
 
I have to say i'm with everyone else and both bodies are on my "to buy in the future when i actually have some money" list :lol:
And then £500 for a lovely shiney lens. What camera are you using at the moment?
 
Doesn't the 1D Mark II use the older type batteries? I know the 5D uses Lith Ion, but not sure about the 1D MkII and if it would be a point to consider?
 
The MkII's do use older batteries but I don't see that as a problem. They last a long time (c. 1200 shots in the UK) and are cheap to get copies (£12.99 from 7day)
