Hi everyone,

had a quick nosey through the stickies and couldnt quite find what i was after..

i currently have a 550D and 2x Jessops flash guns which can either work on the camera or off the camera.

I currently do a lot of car meets and cruises etc in dark locations ( carparks etc) and often think id like to try different things.

im not sure this is the right technique at all but ive been shooting at around 10-15seconds exposure, f10 and lighting up the darker parts of the vehicle etc with the flashguns. I was thinking, as they work by infrared, is there a way of getting a sender as it where that sits on the top of your camera as the onboard flash often reflects light straight off the number plate?

anyways, some of my work so far :

so for example, the last image was taken on a quicker shutter speed, me flashing 1 flashgun to set off the other i have that lit up the door etc, is there anything i can buy, cheaper the better ( i know cheap isnt always best but money is tight ) that will act as the trigger to send the 2 guns i already have off ? options, links and prices please =) thankyou...

Hi Rich, have a search on ebay for rf 602, that will give you plenty of sellers with trigger and receiver sets, the trigger sits in the hotshoe on top of your camera and activates the receivers which are attached to your flashes when you shoot. There are other more expensive options but that's the ones I use personally.

will i need reievers or will they work similar to infrared ?

for example if i set off the onboard flash it will set off both my flashguns..

but the on board camera is often on the front of the car leading to reflection off the number plates etc, can you just buy something that will trigger the 2 flashes? will the rf602 do this ?

many thanks for the replies so far

Your flasguns don't work via infrared, they are optically triggered, meaning they just fire when they see the flash of the onboard flash. The aforementioned RF602 or the newer RF603 triggers would be a better bet.

brilliant, i assumed it was infrared due to the massive red cover things on the front of the 2 flashes ?

but they dont seem to expensive to get me going now and will need some tripods to stand the flashes on i guess. any suggestions with those at all ?

thanks once again for the advice =)

Plus Trevor form Cotswold Photo (he is selling the stand from Michael's link) is a great guy to deal with
