Hi Holty,

I have the kit with one softbox and a brolly. An absolute bargain and top quality lights.

First studio lights for me and I love 'em.

Take a look at my Flickr site.
I've only got a black background at the moment but I'm amazed by the quality of the lights and the results I'm getting.

If you go for it get the kit with the softbox and brolly like mine. More versatile than the 2 softbox kit.

If you need advice phone Lencarta and ask to speak to Garry Edwards.
He posts on here and is a mine of information and a really nice knowledgeable bloke.

He'll steer you right.

Hope this helps you mate,

Terry.

I can't add anything to the above.
I haven't got the Smartflash kit but I have got a few of their products and I've played with tons of their kit at their studio.

As above I have the kit but I bought the one with two
Umbrellas, very happy with it.

I have it and I love it. I'd go for the soft box and umbrella. I also upgraded to a profold soft of which is a breeze to put up and down.

Advice:
For full length standing portraits done properly the average modern home will be a struggle, but if you do have the space a much larger softbox would be good.

Softboxes are better than brollies in confined spaces*. but one of each isn't a bad start.

Remember this is a 'starter' kit, if you get into it, you'll end up with loads more stuff. If you can afford it, upgrade to the profold softbox, easier to use. And talk to Garry about the size of your space, you might be able to get a larger softbox to work**.

Watch the videos on Lencartas website, there's some terrible advice on YouTube etc. and it's difficult when you're starting out to spot the bad advice.

*lighting is about shadows (noobs always assume it's about light), a shoot through brollie in a small room will bounce light all over the place, frustrating any control you're trying to exercise.

** we have higher than average ceilings and I like to use a 120 octa right up at ceiling height for a seated portrait, but it's not quite high enough for an adult standing.

I luckily found (on the classifieds here) 2 100cm Bowens softboxes for I believe a good price.

Not tried them yet but I have high hopes of much softer light than the 60cm softbox in the kit.

I'll let you all know how I get on.

Forget them, go for the profold as @Phil V mentions

I spoke with Garry very recently re which to get, he advised getting the smartflash 2 kit with 1 brolley and 1 softbox. He also said the new standard softbox was perfectly good and didn't need upgrading to a profold. I am waiting for delivery as they were out of stock when I ordered so ...
