Letting people know you profess to be a photographer has its dangers. Having shown some friends some of my pics I was asked if I could do some promo shots for the Katona Twins - a classical guitar duo. I agreed. And then was really nervous as this was the first time I'd been commissioned to do anything of this sort.

Deciding the way forward was to do it properly, rather than at half cock, I booked a studio and told them they were to bring their guitars and changes of clothes. Also roped a friend in to help with general running around.

I also decided to shoot "tethered" to the pc so the guys could get instant feedback. I have mixed feelings about that because they kept looking over at the pc when they should have been looking at the camera. But overall, it worked because it made both them and me relax a bit more as we could see - at reasonable size - that the shots were looking reasonable.

It seemed to go ok in the end. I took about 160 shots. Here's one of them. (Its got jpg compression artefacts, I know)

Thanks also go to Keith at Metropolis Studios in Liverpool who helped me set up the lights. He's also a member (but occasional visitor I think) on here.

congrats i remember *** i was a tog for a few months lol

Looks pretty good.

I personally would have gone for a slightly lighter background as they are both wearing dark clothes.

The purple background does look good though, accents their faces and the guitar.

Thanks 8utters - I did some against a white backdrop too, which came out pretty well, but I preferred the darker background. Although, I think the boys maybe preferred the look of the white ones. White was tricky, because it tends to emphasize (or exaggerate) the distance between them - I couldn't get them too close together because they're brothers not lovers.

Looking at this again, there may be white balance issues.

Yeah the white balance seems a bit off, the background isn't white enough. Perhaps it wasn't lit brightly enough? One of the reasons people come out with backgrounds that arn't bright white is due to lighting.

Looking good all the same :)

I'm liking the dark BG, all you really see are faces, hands and gultar... and after all, what more do yo want. :)
