Yes
My Interfit Stellar X 300 s/box & umbrella kit just got setup for the first time & I this was one of the better pics.

I am pretty sure I got this with luck more than anything else lol, although it helps having a very cute subject.. I just used the softbox for this.

C/C if you please..

Damn.. you were quick on the draw..

I've removed it now that you've sorted it.

Sorry! was a bit hasty - forgot to RTFM.

I'd say it was a damn nice pic. Anybody should be well happy with that

Since you asked for crit, you need to get rid of that furry thing in the background, and you've lost the hair line at the top. You could use a lighter background but I like the black - suits the monochrome treatment.

Thing to do there is add a hair light, above, behind and to the right - opposite side the main key-light. It would then be close to perfect I think :)

Thank you for the feedback - I welcome all c/c!
The background used was a 42 inch 5-in-1 reflector, next time I will try the white.

I would love to buy more lights inc Hair lights, but my flat isn't going to accommodate any more kit :'(

I am having a young lady friend over this weekend who has kindly offered her 'head n shoulders' for some studio experimenting in return for a nice pic to give to her family. Any tips?

You got a flash gun? That's all you need.

Great shot!

I have a 580exII, alas no wireless triggers.

Yongnuo RF-602, post #2 here £28 a set http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=157807

Zoom out to 105mm. If you get some spill on the background or wherever, shield it with a piece of card and BluTack.

Next excuse? Let me guess - a stand. Konig £11 from Amazon. Even better, attach it with the neat little ball & socket umbrella adapter from FITP.

Sync it up to the 580 and that will trigger the optical slave on your studio head. But heck, get another receiver for an extra 2p and use that - maybe more reliable in that situation. Comes with the cable you need

Do you mind sharing what lens etc you used for the shot? Its lovely! I want to get into portrait photography

Why didn't I join this site months ago! I have learnt more in the last week than I have in the last 6 months!

Thank you for all the 'leads', what is FITP?

Sure, 5d2 with canon 100-400 4.5 - 5.6 L IS
I stood back as far as my sync cable would allow! 340mm 1/200 ISO100 f/6.3

Hmmn. Just got the RF-602, it doesn't work..

After some digging around the internet found that the Interfit Stellar X is wired negative to the centre so it doesn't fire. :bang:

I've fired my ex150s off it, try the other head?

anyway if all else fails the 580 will sit on the trigger and act as a trigger, great for indoors with no distracting flashes

Sounds strange  Have you checked with FITP?

But David's plan B should work. It's as I initially described in the post you quoted - so long as the built-in optical slave on the Stellar gets a decent view of the flash from the 580, it will fire in sync.

my meter is at home but I don't really understand negative to the center, have you tried the cable in the other head only one ex150 will take a cable (which is dumb) and they aren't marked (which is dumber)

BTW the kit I have is the Interfit Stellar X 300.

Have tried in both heads, same result. The test button doesn't even work when I have the trigger plugged in.

Anyhow, David - spot on! Have tested your theory and hey presto, it works. I guess I will just have to use my 580 all the time with the kit.

Thank you all for your advice! :)
