1dx2 vs 5dsr.

I did, Craig, but I've clearly not understood something.

That's fine Bob, probably not me explaining it clearly.

I didn't say in black and white the 5dsr is better than the 7d2 with matching fov, I just alluded to the consideration of subject distance and lens used, which as you've mentioned is a key factor in comparing the bodies. It's also why I finished my post asking what lenses the OP owns.

All I'm going to add is this. The image quality from the 5dsr after cropping in 1.6x will be very similar (albeit slightly sharper) than your 7d2.

If you will use it with the same lenses from the same distance as the 7d2 then don't bother, you already have that level of iq available to you.

If you are able to get closer and fill the frame with either the 1dxii or the 5dsr then my first question of what do you shoot, expands into how do you shoot to answer which camera is best...

I don't get the point of the thread at all tbh. You bought 7D2 to compliment the 1DX2 and now wonder if you should have bought a 5DSR instead of the 1DX2. Maybe the other way around makes some sense but without knowing what you are doing with them who knows. For what it's worth my mate traded on this 5DSR for a 1DX2 as he really disliked the 5DSR.

It's nigh on impossible to get a lens that can get near the 5DSr's resolution and most will give little or no benefit beyond a 35Mp sensor (36x24). I've got around 60 'decent' lenses and only one (maybe two) that can get close to providing enough for 50Mp.
In practice, around 30-40% of the ability to crop has already been lost by the lens' performance

You could take this one step further and say it’s awful being stuck with Nikon / DSLR’s.
Mirrorless is the future, if I was looking to buy an expensive body at this time, I’d seriously be considering waiting or looking at mirrorless options.

Riz, think you're a one man mirrorless army in this thread at the minute. Lots of DSLR's still to be sold I'm afraid.

EDIT: I would have to agree though, I the position of the poster I would get an A7RIII.

If I had to have only one it would be the 1Dx mkII for speed its in a different class to the 5Dsr.
Rob.

Well Canon say they will be going mirrorless and if it is an ef mount design, I'll be seriously considering it.

Then that is what you should do, wait until Canon announces their mirrorless plans and act accordingly.

I suspect if you replace now and Canon announces something amazing you'll only end up regretting your impatience.

There is always that.
At the time I bought the 1dx2 I was searching for a "One Camera does all" solution.
Sadly the 1dx2 is not it (for me)
So, the 7d2 came along as I wanted more apparent reach from my lenses. It made sense at the time to spend £1250 on a crop body as opposed to £7k to £10k on a huge white lens.
Now the 7d2 spends more time out of the house than the 1dx2.

I dabble in all types of photography but when it comes to landscape I don't feel either of my systems cut the mustard.

This is where I start to wonder if my starry eyed decision to buy the 1dx2 over the 5dsr was prudent.

As my opening gambit suggests, having doubts.

1d x mk 2 landscape. The 50mp would only be worth it if putting big prints on your wall IMO

That's a lovely shot but cropping to pano is pixel hungry which is why I think the 5dsr would be a better choice for me.

Quite but if the time/money isn't a problem then it's not a problem.

In your shoes I would sell the 1DX2 as you clearly aren't happy with it and will be second guessing your decisions (a waste of time and energy), wait for Canon/Nikon to announce then if it's amazing go for that otherwise use its announcement/release to snag a cheap current body as it should cause price drops while people upgrade and stuff goes out of production. In fairness, I can think of worse problems than being stuck with a 1DX2.

It's easy for me to say though, if I had any patience I'd have followed my own advice and not currently own an A7.
