No
I have damaged the top of my 1DX, there is now a hole in the top and you can see inside, its just in front of the hotshoe, I have been looking online to see if I can get a idea of what it would cost for repair, the outer body looks like it may be in more than one part, not sure, cannot find anything online that tells me if the outer is all one.
Camera still works fine but obviously a repair is a must, anyone have any info?

I am taking it to Canon tomorrow anyhow, just thought I would ask here.

Thanks for that, I had a argument with a out of control MotoX bike.

Blimey that sounds dangerous.

As a matter of interest (might be a silly question) does the camera still work?

Yes, appears to work fine, used it since, need to get it fixed tho because obviously it is only usable in good weather.

If the broken bit has not gone inside the camera and it still works maybe you could do a good bodge job to stop the water getting in unless its insured then im sure they will write it off

I'm guessing it will be an expensive repair unless you're insured.
Think if you're not I'd be tempted to fill the hole with fibre glass or something & cover it with waterproof tape if it's working ok. But then I know nothing of the workings of cameras.

Didn't see this Kev.....great minds think alike hey. :D

I hope the camera was the only damaged party in this incident, sounds a bit deadly to me. As a rider I don't like the words 'out of control'. As others have said, if you're insured get a quote off Canon for the repair and contact the insurers (maybe your home insurance might cover part of the cost if you haven't got dedicated). I really don't foresee this to be a quick, simple or cheap job TBH but I really wouldn't advise a cheap bodge job for such an expensive top of the range camera.

Oh I don't know Stuart, I've had cameras & flash guns held together with sticky tape before now. :D :exit:

So have I, but mine didn't cost in excess on £40, let alone £4000+. I had the battery cover taped up on one of my cameras for 6 months before I gave in and got another, but I wasn't trying to make a living with mine and it only went out in the sun

I damaged the hot shoe and put a dent in the top of my 1D IV last year after clipping the armco when crossing a circuit during an event last year. Canon were able to replace just the top cover assembly, including the hot shoe which cost me about £185 including P&P. They also gave it a full clean and service at the same time.

The parts were £63+VAT, labour was £75+VAT and postage was £16+VAT

Took it into Canon today, in the display cabinet was a 1D body with the front taken off and top still in place so I presume the casing is in different parts, good news if it is hopefully.

Theres definatly 3 seperate sections as ive seen one in the flesh on the floor just having been run over

No its not, the 1DX is made of 3 seperate pieces

Well I'll be....I could've sworn it was all one piece, just goes to show my attention to detail even after I'd looked at the pic of it stripped down I still thought it was. :)

Well done Gary for putting the record straight.

Luck,

Stew.

Really pleased for you Steve, sorry if my initial mistake gave you a fright. Lets hope it won't be too expensive. :)

Luck,
Stew.

Heard from Canon, it is indeed in three separate parts, to replace top and a couple of other fixes, service and clean up cost is £540.00
