Just had a phone call from RGB-Tech, they have a 1dmkIII in stock with my name on it...
The problem is im skint and have had to turn down the camera... Im gutted. :bang: ![]()
Least you got to the top of the list - still waiting![]()
It maybe a good thing that you have to wait a little longer, as Canon might get one to focus properly by the time yours is ready.
You could always sell me your 1d2 if you need money to fund it?
lol - that babys staying with me, but thanks for the generous offer![]()
Sorry for the miss understanding, my comment was aimed at DreederUK. As nice as the 1DS MK2 is, I am quite happy with the images from the 5D. I need a sports camera.
For every un-biased Nikon 'reviewer', fortunately there is impartial review that detects an issue, but also has the capacity to resolve it. No doubt there is a problem in certain circumstances - but i probably wont be using it in those conditions.![]()

www.robgalbraith.com said:Since the weekend, Canon technicians have been installing beta firmware v1.1.1 into the EOS-1D Mark IIIs of photographers covering the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Osaka, Japan.
Several shooters have written us to say that Canon staff on site are advising photographers that the firmware is meant to improve AI Servo autofocus and a rare instance of the camera not firing. This is consistent with the message being delivered to EOS-1D Mark III owners who call in to Canon's customer care centre in the U.S this week: that the beta firmware does exist, it's meant to improve the stability of AI Servo autofocus, it's being made available to professional photographers on a trial basis and that when the beta test is complete there will be a public release of new firmware for download via Canon's websites.
There's no word yet as to when the new EOS-1D Mark III firmware will be released, or what if any other changes may be rolled in before it's made officially available. We're going to hold off writing about this firmware update until it's out of beta. We're also still waiting on the promised report from Canon, detailing the results of their investigation in Japan of our claims of significant autofocus problems in the EOS-1D Mark III.
I'm kinda lost here..... nothing new there then!
If it's user error and can't (simply) be used out of the box, why are Canon issuing firmware upgrades so quickly?
PS I'm a Canon user![]()
My bad..... !![]()
1. Canon attempted to provide a customisable AF system that could be fine tuned by the photographer depending on their situation.
Ian is the only bloke (I'm aware of) on the forum who has his mucky paws on one of these so far...... So perhaps he could advise.
The auto focus on the 1d3 is user customisable.
The user needs to set the camera up for their shooting style, it isn't designed to be taken out of the box and used (to a degree).
If the user doesn't set up the auto focus the way they want to use it, they will not get the performance it can achieve,
and this is why people are having problems.
This is 100 percent the Canon official line that they have been telling dealers to pass onto customers. Believe it if you wish, but both have a vested interest convincing you of this.
Of course the MKIII AF debate has been flogged to death across the internet and the the only thing of import at the moment is how the beta firmware tested in Osaka fairs.
