I've been noticing the problem at least 3 or 4 shots a week. Since i've got my Canon 500 F4 IS i think (not had it all that long).
Its a strange dark halo around certain edges that could almost seem like a sharpening halo if it wasn't appearing on completely unprocessed shots.
Example of it... completely unsharpened/unaltered from raw apart from the exposure compensation turned up a little to show it more. Shows up like this in the 100% view of DPP and Rawshooter.
You can see it to the right of the curve of the wing and to the right of the beak too.
Again here.
Both images are 100% crops.
There are some blown highlights along the leading edges of the wings (though nothing that highlight recovery can't get back in raw processing) and just a tiny line of pixels blown on the red channel along the beak in the 2nd one, again nothing that processing can't fix.
Its causing me a lot of hassle... i have to spend ages and ages going around the outline of the bird with a soften brush just to not have a big thick black halo around it once its reduced to web size.
I didn't have the hood on the 500 F4 but then i was standing in complete shadow with the sun also behind and to the right of me.
No filters were used.
Has anyone seen anything like this?
I need to get this sorted before the canon warranty goes out of date on my 1d about a month from now
