Yes
I was just wondering if anyone has used any of the HK batteries that are on the bay??

Are there any problems with them??

Do you use them?

not sure on the batteries side of things.
with a 1DIII i wouldnt want to take the risk. Maybe thats jsut because i have a 400D and a 1DIII is so much more camera.

Fraggle, what's the link? I looked for some for my 1Ds mk3 and 7 day don't have any yet.

I think you should get a long extension lead and jerry rig it to the mains.... Failing that a shoulder mounted gen set...... With a harmonic filter fitted of course....

How is the new cam..

Shutterman

I think its a winning idea... then license it and make a mint....

it'd have to come with a gym membership!! lol..

and physio

ok, so, has anyone got an opinion on these batteries? i dont know if they are the same type of cell.. i hope they are as they are very good..

Are you sure you actually need a spare battery? - I am getting about 1200 shots per battery charge on my 1D Mk3.

I did buy a spare Canon battery - but have yet to use it.

I'd echo the sentiment but I'm getting WAAAYYY more than 1200. At least 2000 from a charge. I also bought a spare which has been used but just because I felt I had to after buying it :p

Sorry that should read 1Ds Mk3 not 1D Mk3.

Tom

No, its a 1D not the Ds..

Im also getting VERY good battery life too, im just being carefull.. im doing an even next month and need to be shooting for about 5 hours solid, it would be very un professional to run out of juice on the day!!.. also i travell around quite a bit and it not always possible to keep the battery charged.. another thing is i like to run batteries down completly to give them a full charge.. i know its not supposed to suffer memory effect but its just something i do, good house keeping i call it..
I think its always good to have a spare..

same battery in the 1D Mk3 and 1Ds Mk3.
Your thoughts were very similar to mine when i purchased the spare battery - as yet unused.

Tom

im going to get one.. its just im not too sure if these ones iv listed are any good.. i suppose i better buy a cheap one and see..

Good luck on the purchase.

I bought a spare battery as 'insurance' - a canon one - so the question of 'is it any good' does not come into it. I didn't want the hassle to find out 'if it was any good'

Tom

Fraggle, can you send or post me the link for the cheap battery, I might just buy one as insurance.

George

theres a link in post #5..

I stopped buying cheap batteries years ago when a mate had 3 that all started to expand. One of which, had he not seen it as he was about to put it back in his camera, would have destroyed is camera from the inside, as after 2 hours it was twice the size...

Don't be cheap on a camera worth over £2k, buy a proper Canon one...

Pete

Fraggle,

If your into good housekeeping, then why spend all that money buying a 1D MK3 then risk damaging it buying a cheap 'Made in HK' batttery?

Around £75 all in get you a genuine Canon battery. I'd consider that the best house keeping you could do!!

From a Fellow 1D MK3 owner.

IAs others have said, the OE battery gives an excellent life, I would get a cheap back up and only use it in an emergency, I would actually never expect to use it (if that makes any sense!!). The 7 day shop ones I used in my 1Ds mk1 never gave any problems, but the battery life on that camera was nothing like the mk3.

Im into good haouse keeping but not into being ripped off by the man.. lol.. thats why im doing sdome research on the compatibles.. iv not committed myself as yet, but GEORGE has said it would just be for a back up.. the life i get from mine is supurb! and i dont think i'll be running oput of power with it, but you never know.. so it's just for those instances that cant be seen..

I have compatibles for my 5D and they are great! 2000ma as opposed to the Canon 1300!!! that came with it.. i have a Canon 1800ma but still not as good as the El-Cheapo!! lol..

Fraggle, that link I posted above is in London, have you looked at it and do you know them?

George

George, they are in Nottingham, iv not seen them before, they look ok to me! thanks..

Well, I've ordered one from the Nottingham people, £15.99 incl pandp, so will report on receipt.

George

Hmmm, update to yesterday's order, an email this morning saying none on stock and they don't know when they are getting them, so they've cancelled my order.........hope it's not a scam to get credit card details......they have mine!!

Oh! not good.. lets hope they arnt scamming!!

What are you going to do? are you thinking about getting one from ebay>?

Well, I think I may wait till 7 day shop have them, used them before and found the service and quality generally good.

If you come up with anything else, let me know and vice versa.

George

Will do..

Are 7 day doing compatibles for the MkIII???

I have known of three camera's damaged by copy batteries, and the number of copy batteries out there is very high because they are very cheap to produce, and easy to copy the original labels as well.

Not that a lot of them are very good but if you have only spent a few quid most people seem to take the attitude well worth a go. But it irritates me because pound for pound copy batteries are the biggest rip off going...............

Im using copy batteries on my 5D and they are working very well.. well, their not copies, they are after market..

It shouldnt irritate you.. their not forcing YOU to use em..;)

I didnt know they were damaging cameras though.. its the first iv heard of it.. but thats why i started this thread..

Sorry, fraggle, no 7 day aren't doing them yet.
