1D Mk3 Picture Styles.

I have always had my 40D picture style set to 'Standard' I am doing my first wedding on Saturday and will have the 1D with 70-200 2.8 IS and 40D with kit 17-85.

Having never messed with the picture styles I was just wondering what people thought, leave it as is, go with what I know type of thing or perhaps wind it round to 'Portrait', now in the instructions it says 'Nice skin tones and slightly sharp images' whereas set at 'standard' it says I will get 'Vivid colours and sharp images'

Bit of a dilemma for me really, bearing in mind alot of the images will get turned into B&W do I need the 'Nice skintones' as I am happy with the tones I get already :shrug:
 
Do you shoot RAW ? If so, the picture styles have no effect on the image.
 
If it's your first wedding then definately shoot RAW, it may well save your ass if you muck up a little ! :)

There's lot of mixed light conditions at weddings, so fixing the WB later is a godsend.
 
Cheers, Brides father is an ex pro Wedding tog so he should keep me on the straight and narrow, I fully expect him to steal one of the bodies at some point, he ain't getting the one though, lol !
 
I'd have thought it best to stick with what you know. You can always apply some soft filters, or warming effects, in Photoshop later if needs be. And, I would guess that whilst you might be tempted to have a classic softening around the bride for some pics, you don't want the groom in too much of a hazy glow

If I am honest I would rather have them pin sharp, its then up to me what I do with them, so go with what I know I think, just wondered if anyone has used these different styles and what they thought !
 
Well if you are shooting raw and jpg (something i do RAW to CF and JPG to SD) you can do what you like with picture styles as you will always have the raw images to come back to if it all goes horribly wrong. How big are your cards ?

I use a 4gb CF and 2gb SD and i fill the CF long before the SD

10 x 2gb 1x 4gb all CF, I don't have any SD just yet !
 
Doh ! Can you get a couple SD quick ? That way not all of your pics are going onto the same card, another level of insurance :) Like i said 2gb SD with JPG getting written to them will take quite a few images :)

I do L JPG, and with a 2gb CF and 2gb SD in the CF always fills up before the SD, so i use 4gb CF and 2gb SD now :)

One to remember for next time, wish I had had a better craic with you on Sunday, those 10 x 2gb will be split between both cameras aswell, should be fine, hoping !
 
Think 2gb in raw will be about 200 shots on the Mk3, mayeb a little less, so approx 1000 shots from each camera, if you shoot Raw and Large i imagine those numbers will be about 120ish R+L not 100% sure on that though, may be less ! Thats why i always write one to one card and one to the other just in case.

I just never thought about that, I think I have everything else covered though, so will prey with this one, haha !
