1D MK3 and 1DS MK3 Owners !

And you know what, Ian, I went and got a Mack extended warranty on mine when I bought it.

Might ask if they will start it from 2 yrs rather than the one year, as they say it starts from the end of the Canon warranty.

George

ps, mine was bought in the US, so we'll see.....

Wouldn't it be a better idea if a 3 year warranty as standard, was given on all equipment. Say over a grand.
It would certainly sell a lot more gear.

Like sigma and the EX exended 2 year free warranty.

thanks Ian, registered :)

Hi - I have been told that this applies to PRO users only, the caveat of which is two 1 series bodies and three L lenses!

Diego, didn't ask for mine, although I am CPS reg. No facility on the application form.

Have I told you about what I found out about the sub mirror issue?

Basically, in the factory, there are two machines that assemble the mirror boxes and one that fits them. The two machines filter into the one. However, one of the two mirror machines was mis-calibrated, only by a fraction of a mm, but obviously the good and bad cameras both ended up together, which explains why Canon could not ID faulty cameras and ended up doing the product recall.

They thought that they could batch a set of serial numbers together however as an approx. amount. Was told this by a fairly high employee in Canon last week and its gospel from me.

I cant see how a software fix cant repair something that has to be a hardware issue and I understand that an N version of the machine may be here soon. This of course reflects the very same issues that the Mark II had before the N was released.

If thats the case and they release a N version i can see a lot of very ****ed off people with cameras that are devalued because of the N will have to see what happens then !

Yes, I totally agree, hence why all along, I advised it takes either a very rich person or a very brave one to go for the Mark III !!

To me, it is the white elephant of all cameras, which is such a shame as I loved it. To be honest, I am struggling with my D3 - I much preferred the feel of the Canon bodies, but the PQ of the D3 is great.

Again, is it the same with the 1Ds mk 3 or just the 1D?
Surely they are off different lines?

I accept what you say, Diego, but have some questions.
If it is one machine out of two, surely that means 50% of the units will be fine? Does the recall that has already been done not help that?

Secondly, the problem was, I thought, resolved prior to the launch of the 1Ds mk3. Is this not the case?

And thirdly, are you suggesting all Canon's 1d, 1Ds and 40Ds go through the same single assembly unit?
I appreciate that a lot of what you got is confidential, but it would be interesting to get any views you feel you can share.
Also you refer to the 1D mk2 and 1D mk2 N, but there was never as far as I'm aware a 1Ds mk 2 N, and so I'm surprised that they are having the same problem throughout the new range.

I also got a Mack warranty, free as I bought a 1DMk3 and a 70-200 at the same time, boy did my credit card creak and groan at the time!!!!

Must admit, as of 1.2.3 firmware, it does nail the focus and am happy with my setup. It's awesome with the 300 on it!

Carl.

Prove it Carl, bring it with you Saturday's powerboat racing. My mk2 is dying:'(

So why would canon give away a 2 yr guarantee :suspect: – cause they know the cameras had faults and they ****ed up

Nikon have finally brought out a really good camera (or two) and canon know that they need to shift all the mk3’s before they bring out the N version (or mk4)

i think the resale value of the mk3 will go through the floor...

I would like to put in a good word for the 1Ds mk 3. I am delighted with mine. Full stop.
I am currently in the US so may not get the flack which this will undoubtedly bring,,,:lol::lol::exit::exit:

Thanks for the heads up - just registered for my 2 year term. Nice one.

My 1DIII is just totally awesomely fantastic by the way.
