got the chance of the above,sec/hand for about £800..already got 40D-5D.. just fancy having a pro camera..probably got more money than sense:cuckoo:..anyone got any thoughts, experience of this camera:shrug:

For 800.. find out the click count.. (when you get to 200k -250k clicks its gonna cost 250 quid for replacement shutter)... I just bought a second one for 1,100 quid with 50k clicks and got a 3mth warranty.. I thoguht that a decent price.. £800 i would bite there hand off if not too high a count :)

I think this is the motivation of a lot of people who go for this camera - it was more than half of mine, I'll be the first to admit.

The 1D2 or n is a serious pro camera, but it's halfway house sensor size may not be ideal for what you want to do. It appeals to hordes of sports and reportage photographers for good reason - it's built to withstand vitually anything, it's weatherproof, and has a lightning fast AF system and at 8.5 frames per second, it's the camera to catch the action.

Just think seriously about whether these attributes are the ones you really need. ;)

I love my 1D MkII, it's everything CT says and more. You pick it up, you know it will work, it just get's on with it. Mine gets treated to a ridiculous amount of abuse almost every weekend and it just never lets you down.

At £800 if it's a reasonably low shutter count grab it :)

Doddy is the classic case of someone who needs one - up to his neck in mud and crap and taking the camera with him.

thanks for the replies so far everyone...all understood, this cam has 22000 clicks,so not too bad..on the fence now:gag: may need a little shove either way:help:..standing by for further instuctions:naughty:

standing by for further instuctions

Buy it. ;)

Seriously, it's not going to drop in value over a month or two while you find out if it's gonna fit your needs,. If not, sell it on knowing that you've had one and cross it off the list.

A camera can be just for christmas, not for life. :D

It's a snip tbh at 800 quid, but just think that the dosh could go towards glass!

Personally I think you have an ideal combination in the 5D and 40D.

At that price it's a bargain.

Course it will, I'm reckoning it will be worth about £500, if he's really lucky, in a month, just PMing now for first dibs. :whistling: :D

I also recommend that you should go for it, if it is what you 'need'.
I bought mine for £1000 (equivalent in Euros) few months back, it is just what I need for sports photography. Definitely a sports camera if I ever saw one..

..may have to sell a few bits of kit now to fund it:thinking:..watch this space
Ah, now that maybe changes things, I thought from your first post you were buying it as an extra, not an "instead of".

If you're flogging other kit you really do need to sit back and think if it's something you need. Also, the kit you might be selling, how often do you use it, would you regret selling it in favour of something that's "nice to have"?

Just what I was going to say.

It would be far better if it's possible to buy the 1D on a card and swallow a couple of months interest if you HAVE to have it.

Then you can evaluate what the least used kit is and sell that to pay off the £800. It may be the 1D, it may not.

so much wisdom here:thumbs:..was thinking of selling a couple of lenses that i very seldom use..but, yes they would be nice to hang on to..thanks again..credit card on stand by:thankyou:

tbh if it means letting go of something to fund the 1dII I'd hold back and reconsider. it is, and always will be, a fantastic camera and capable of producing amazing results, but do remember that its a few years old (in camera terms thats quite an age!) and with the 40D + 5D you pretty much have things covered that I can't see the point of getting another camera other than for the '1d-ness' of it all, especially if it means shedding other kit to fund it at this stage...just trying to think 'unemotionally'. its a steal if its in good condition at that price but think carefully about its use

Well I say just buy it. I know nothing about this camera, I'm a Nikon guy. BUT I do like spending money!!!
I REALLY like spending other peoples money! If its a good camera, then thats an added bonus. But you gotta admit, theres no other feeling like blowing money on camera gear. lol.

I could use/need/want one of these, specially for £800 :D
