Hi guys, first time posting in this area!

So, my 750d was a quick replacement when another camera died around 2 years ago.. I have since grown since then and feel I need to branch out a bit more! The low light issues are killing me and I really would like more fps!
Now I am by no means rich but am looking at saving up for another body. I was looking at the 1D mkiv.. as that probably all I could afford by the time I save up and I like the 10fps..
I'm a pet and equine photographer and do some indoor action shots of puppies every few months, massively helped by my 70-200 2.8.
I was wondering if I should aim to save up for it or if you think I should go for another model! I hate decisions!

Do any of you use it for pets/equine?

Thanks in advance! :)

Deffo good choice for equine!

Its good, I have a 1D MK 3 as a mess about camera but they are much different to a 750d.

It is a complex and advanced camera though and the custom menus are nightmarishly complex and difficult. The worst I have seen out of about 30 DSLR`s I have owned.

The 1D4 is still a great camera, especially at current prices. Don't forget to have a look at the 7D2, another good 10fps alternative.

Honestly though if you could hold fire and save a bit longer then a decent used 1DX will outshine either of them - the AF/Tracking/high ISO/IQ etc are just better - much better.

I’d personally hold out for a 1dx if I were you. I have a 1diii and I love it. It is, as mentioned above, complex and a bit of pig to use at first but it’s a brilliant piece of kit. The iii - iv jump isn’t huge but the iv-x is a big step forward imo.

When I upgrade - I’m going straight to the 1dx.

I've been using a mark iv these last years, when you say low light this might be a weakness. I don't shoot that many pets, love 'em but do wild thingies.I'd imagine we might suffer similar challenges in our image making, Essentially,we both shoot bouncy things:D that need good AF !! In decent light the 1D mark iv will do you proud but in low light with the rate sensor techs are moving,i'm not so sure if it's the best choice for you??

My primary reason to upgrade was low light performance I've .literally just stopped saving and bought a new body. The 1div is a stonking camera I've been utterly thrilled with what it can produce,. I can push it to iso 6400 and still get something half decent,(IF i DO MY BIT...the EXP has to be spot on ETTR an all), I shoot at higher SS and hence higher iso than probably many do So I tend to be pushing things alot in an english winter, many of my subjects being crepuscular an' all . I have very little experience of other cameras, bar this one body.

SA you need to hold a 1D body for a day, shoot with one be aware it is a brick!! It simply might not be for you weight wise, you have to buy the tool for you mate. I actually like the weight it brings the center of gravity back into your body ,but this facet might make it not for you

I've just bought a 1DXii omg so much money,so much work:banghead:...anyway your note on low light, the files are different, more maliable more recoverable(is that a word??) ,I can't speak for 1dx but trust john's advice above ,maybe a bit more graft and saving for a 1DX might be better? For me it all rests around your low light issues..

The 1dmark iv is an outstanding camera and represents great value, but it has to suit you mate, not me or any of the guys and gals here. Mine is staying here as a second body it's too good to sell :D

All the luck,:)

Helpful suggestions, all thank you so much! I was looking at the 1dx but figured it'd be way over my budget (when I finally get that sorted!) However reading the comments, maybe I should just be patient and go straight for the DX! I guess I was settling and not aiming? :)
I was looking at the 7D2, also..and that didn't help, liked that too - to be a millionaire right?

Yes bouncy things indeed! Wouldn't have it any other way though :D..which is why i'm willing to invest in a decent body..I was out on an overcast day shooting two dogs, and I was just not happy at all with the noise! So I have taken your comments into consideration - thank you! Will pop into our local camera shop and have a look if they have one in to try!

You know when you search and search and weigh up the pros/cons.. then the pricing, then go back and do it all again until you can't think anymore? Yeah, I'm there haha. However, I may as well just aim to save as much as I can - aiming for Christa - and see what I can afford! Start the new year with a new body ;)

Exciting!

I know exactly how you feel kiddo, having just been through this upgrade process, tell ya what though chrimbo in july works for me:D I found it very challenging as both the 1dX and 5Div also made sense for me as an upgrade and somewhat easier to obtain than the DXii !!

One goes round and round trying to figure all this SA I'm not the sharpest tool in the box photography wise, but as above do tend to find myself trying for something when the light is frankly not great. I also don't know your experience level please forgive if you know the next bit. I started with a 550D(cracking little camera. I wonder how far you can push that sensor.

Mate try pushing the histograme on the higher isos maybe over exposing by say 2/3 of a stop ( obviously watching the hilights like a hawk). With your subjects being pets, you should be able to take some test images. It's all I can offer really, for the moment, to help with noise. Obviously shooting in RAW. the files will probably look washed out on the back of the camera, but it's what you can do with them that matters. you need to avoid boosting anything in post.as you have to then boost noise

Anyway you might do all this already, but worth a pop.it might just help until you get your new toy
