Yes
MJy 40d is currently away for repair, and in the mean time a mate of mine has lent me his spare body, a 1D mk2.

It's nice, really nice, even if my lenses arew not so suitable for it.

Well he phoned me up tonight and said he is up for selling it. The body, box, manuals and three batteries for £500.

Dammit i'm tempted!

Sounds like a good deal, how's the bank account? About to feel worse I reckon....

Can you get by without LiveView for what you shoot?

Bob

No idea on shutter count, it it easy enough to find out? I got it sitting next to me.

I have no need for live view.

My interests in photography are pretty varied. My main income right now is from nightclub stuff, but that is not something i want to do for ever, or at least be what i rely on. I'm putting a fair bit of time in right now trying to get better with more studio stuff.

I would keep the 40d as a spare/nightclub camera as this current situation has taught me how important a second body is when trying to make money/provide a service.

JFDI ;)

I think i have pretty much convinced myself.

Now with it being a 1.3 crop, my lenses vingette slightly. The only one i'm really worried about is my sigma 18-55.
Now will a canon 17-55mm f/2.8 IS work with a 1.3 crop, or would i need to go for L glass?

the canon 17-55 is an efs so wont work on that body even though its got a slight crop (i think)
and not sure about the sigma .are you sure its a 18-55 and not a 18-50 dc lens. if this is the case its a digital lens and not for the 1d
go L if you can
i got 4 now and they are great
have a look at the classifieds, some bargains around
i just got (off here) a nice 17-40 L

If the sigma is a made for digital lens it will physically fit (Canon don't allow third party manufacturers to use their EF-S mount), but will vignette at wider focal lengths. not ideal really, so a 24-70 may be a good option, you'l loose some of the wide end though.

yes. I moved from a 450D to an ancient 1Ds and I do not regret it at all. I have MD's old 1Ds. That price for the 1D2 is rather good. You get a nice amount of megapickels, but not too much pixel density, in an absolutely cracking body as you already know from having used it.

Just a question, is he going to sell you the charger with it? Because if not I believe the chargers are absolutely extortionate.

I've had to read this twice just to make sure I understood what your saying, :) and yes I think your correct, they will physically fit, but again as you say not all will be suitable.

DG (DG Lens)
These are large-aperture lenses with wide angles and short minimum focusing distances. With an abundance of peripheral illumination, they are ideal lenses for Digital SLR Cameras whilst retaining suitability for traditional 35mm SLRs.

DC (DC Lens)
These are special lenses designed so that the image circle matches the smaller size of the image sensor of most digital SLR cameras. Their specialized design gives these lenses the ideal properties for digital cameras, the compact and lightweight construction is an added bonus ! including compact and lightweight construction.

Sorry, yes. I meant 18-50.
I know the sigma vignettes at all focal lengths as i have been trying it.
I also know that the canon 17-55 is a crop sensor lens, i just wasnt sure if on the off chance canon had had a stroke of genius and based it on a 1.3 crop rather than 1.6.

The constant f2.8 is more appealing to me than what the L designation of the 17-40 offers. But if it's not going to be suitable then thats makes my mind up for me.

Yeah it has the charger. It's a wacking great thing. Charges two batteries at once and can refresh them. (i'm not sure if over chargers are available.)

no ef-s lens will work on that camera, the mirror will hit it.

The 500+ shots i have already taken with two different ef-s lens' attached suggests otherwise.

Though a bit more googling and it seems that the 17-40L is the way to go.
