18-85 supercedes 17 to 55

now swmbo has got flash ,with the 5Dand L lenses, ive pinched her
18-85 IS and stuck it on my 350(while i adjust to using her old 30D).
bloomin eck. the difference from the old 17-55 kit lens is amasing.
one old lens now lives permanently in the bottom of a camera bag.
and she thought the 350 wasnt anywhere near as good as her old 30.
its not THAT far behind with a decent lens on it.
so. tip for 350 users. if you can afford, bin your kit lens and go for an 18-85 IS.

ditch the 18-55 buy the 17-85

not 17-55 18-85......17-55 wipes the floor and 18-85 does not exist...

I've never been that happy with the 18-55 kit lens on my 350D and it's still no better on my 40D. As soon as I decide which lens I'm going to replace it with (either the 24-70 f2.8L or 24-105 f4L IS) it will sit in the "back up bag" with the 350D body and my old 70-210 f4/5.6.

sorry super. you know what i meant.

jelster. the 24-105 is an excelent piece of kit. swmbo has one on her 5D.
we looked at the 24-105, but decided ,the IS and extra range of the24-105 was the better bet for us, doing wedding photography.even accounting for the smaller lens being "faster". and its a chunk cheaper too.
