18-55mm IS Kit Lens Texture

Can someone look at their 450D/1000D (etc) Kit Lens and tell me if the lens has a weird sort of texture on the black of the lens? I was looking at it last night and it looks like it's filthy so I begun cleaning and it wouldn't come off... I'm guessing it's meant to be like that but I have no-idea why they thought it'd look good.

Are you talking about the speckled finish on the black, non-rubberised parts of the lens? It's meant to be like that; supposed to make it look like it's made from magnesium alloy instead of plastic.

I thought that was on all the canon lenses now. The white L lenses have a textured finish too.

my 55-250 has it as well.

Yep, both my EF-S lenses, the kit and 55-250 do.
