1700mm F4

......256 KG

Might need a new bag for that.

perhaps centre focus point only

I thought you were looking for a walkaround lens? That's 17mm, not 1700mm! :bonk:

That's up there with the 1600mm Leica lens that's about $2 million dollars. The 1700mm has Arabic writing on it, so probably some rich Sheikh bought it. They probably made more money from oil in the time it took to count the cash to buy the lens.

Apparently it was ordered by someone for wildlife photography, and now it resides in a museum in Qatar.

Yeah it was antelope photography or something, I think it had a Hasselblad 6x6 MF camera on it. Must have been at least a few million dollars to make it though. A crazy lens I always thought that was more within 'reach' was this:

Mental.

I'd definitely not take that anywhere near a warzone... Far too suggestive!

There's also the Canon 1200 f5.6L, that's a great looking lens, I'd love to try one out.

Could anyone here figure out just how large this would have to be to make it f2.8? Imagine that... 5200mm f2.8....

To make it f2.8 it would be mahoozive !

Even at f14 it's 5200mm / 14 = 37cm wide aperture

f2.8 would be something like 5200 / 2.8 = 1.85 meter wide aperture

The lens in the original post must be something like 1700mm / 4 = 42cm

I would have thought that using something like that out in Middle East heat, atmospheric distortion would make it impossible to get a sharp shot.

And they had it made for wildlife photography. Might have been cheaper to buy the animals and move them closer

I was thinking that. It's evident at 400mm on a hot day in Wales, I cant imagine what it would be like in Qatar in a desert...

Exactly what I was going to say. I saw a 'video' once, well it was a gif of several shots taken on burst' showing a 600mm lens suffering from atmospheric distortion, so a 1700! Blimey.
