16GB Duracell CF 600x speed

Took a chance over my usual Sandisk preference and went for a stack of these Duracell ones and very impressed with the speed @ a quoted 90MB/s. The buffer clears very fast now compared to my Sandisk UDMA 60MB/s ones so I'm guessing they are living up to their speed rating. Will do a side by side comparison when I get a chance.

I can't comment on reliability but I couldn't find any bad reviews. I'll know soon enough I guess! For the price they seem like a good deal.
 
I got 2 of these and 2 of the 300x speed for when I had a 7D and 5D2 and I've never had a problem with any of them. I timed them a few times for uploading photos to the computer and they average out about +/- 2% on stated speed, depending on what else I'm doing on my comp. I picked them up from 7dayshop and was so impressed I ordered a bunch of SDHC cards as well and they work just as well. Great prices from there too.
 
Graham I have a Duracell and it's fine. There was a thread on here ages ago as there were some fake ones around.
 
These Cards are made by Dane Elec which are well thought of in the USA, but doing a search shows the 600x cards are more like 500x but still very fast and great cards... and great value
 
Can you supply a link Graham...I might try these next time I purchase. The ones I last purchased from SCAN (533x) are starting to fail on me ....Luckily I also use a second Hi- Speed SDHC card in the second card slot.
 
What were the ones you got Tug?
 
I bought one of these about a month ago and used recently at Silverstone for the MotoGP. I found it to be fairly quick at writing to the card and clearing the buffer compared to 45Mbs card. Only time will tell if they last.

Duracell quote the read speed for their cards. The write speed for their '600x' cards is actually a hell of a lot slower. Sandisk quote the write speed for their cards. I'd be surprised if the buffer clears faster with the Duracell compared to the Sandisk.
 
Not to worry then Tug. It was just to make sure I don't buy them when I next CF card shop.
 
Ordered another 1 of these yesterday - thats 3 now. Best card for the price by far - and only £28.99!!

it appears it is now but it wasn't when I bough mine they were the same price

I'm just wondering where you are getting this information from that they are so much worse than other equivalent rated cards when the chart I've linked to clearly shows they are up there with the best of them?
 
I have some x600 Duracell CF cards and though I've never 'tested' the speed they seem perfectly fast enough, and most importantly they have so far been reliable.

I based my opinion of the Duracell cards from reports made by real users - like this thread LINK. I'd not seen the data on RG's site. Perhaps Duracell have chaged the way that they label their cards?
 
I've no idea to be honest, but it's certainly a good thing if they have!
 
I thought I'd do some tests with various cards and here's what I get. The Duracell isn't exactly blazing compared to the lesser spec'd SanDisk ones which is a little disappointing. However, the Duracell and the SanDisk 60MB/s are the same price on Amazon but you get twice the storage with the Duracell so I reckon it's a good bargain so long as they are reliable :naughty:

I'd be interested to see how the Transcend 16GB 400x test at because they are priced the same.

I don't have the 16GB version, only the 8GB version of the Transcend 400x card although the figures don't look great which may be down to the reader (Sandisk USB2 CF reader):

I am more interested in reliability as well as my D700 is fussy with memory cards, it's fine with a Samsung 8GB 300x/Transcend 8GB 400x but it doesn't like either a Kingston or Mymemory card I have both of which worked without issue in an Olympus E-3 and show no errors when testing on the PC.

lol, don't go there with readers! I was getting 3MB/s transfer rates with my cards using the card reader built into my Dell XPS. Ran great before but for some reason it slowed down over the last few months. Did a bit of research and it seems that my upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit has caused a small problem because there's no support for it with the card reader.

Anyway, ordered up a new internal reader which is Win7 64bit compatible and away we go again! lol
 
Yes, you de need a reader that is faster than the cards if you want to do a proper comparison. Here's what a Sandisk Extreme does on my system...

I want to try something else, but Sandisk have never let me down and they consistently get the best reviews for reliability. Whether you need a fast card really depends upon your camera's buffer and how you shoot. The buffer on my 7D has never run out during real world use, but that is because I never fire off more than 5 or 6 shots in machine gun mode. Sandisk 30Mbits have been more than sufficient for me, and I have never seen a single corrupted image.

It's a Lexar Expresscard reader. It looks like they no longer make it, possibly because of the driver issues that many of the Amazon reviews complain about. I find it wonderful.

Expresscard interfaces are normally only found on laptops. USB3 should be just as fast and easy to add to a laptop or desktop.
 
I'm restricted to USB2 so I ended up getting a replacement internal unit instead which connects directly to the motherboard. Perhaps my motherboard is the problem but I can live with the speeds I'm getting!
