Will increasing from 16gb to 32gb make a difference in loading my 36mb raw files ? I've got 2 ssd one with os and the other for ps/bridge

Possibly, but 16gb should be doing pretty well, what processor do you have?

Probably not. It might do if you are opening several TIF files at a time but otherwise not.

You can tell if it will make a difference by monitoring your resources, if you find that you are going over 16gb and using the pageswap then more ram will help.

Are you using a Mac or a laptop? If so that'll be the problem ;)

Without knowing the spec of the machine I suspect the limitation may be the reader/usb interface. USB3 is way faster than USB2 ...

32,000Mb compared to 16,000Mb shouldn't make any difference opening a 36Mb file :)

As said need more info before suggestions can be made

It shouldn't, but only you will know. Check out whether you are currently paging to disk, if so then it would help to expand, if not then there is no benefit to be gained for that purpose.

How long does it currently take? The limiter could be the processor. Try and check the cpu and ram usage while you're running the job. Should tell you where the bottle neck is.

As said, what's your scenario? What machine are you on, what are you using to open the files, what else is running.
In general use, 16gb should be plenty.

Thanks for all advice ,,, worked out its the cpu ,,, looks like a new build needed

Now that ive worked out that my processor ,,, is pants ,, AMD

want to start a new build

Well happy to do a build

Fractal D4 case
16gb of ram - 1600mhz
GTX 660 gpu
2 x evo ssd drives
2 x 1tb old school drives
Dark rock cooler

so need a MB and CPU

max amount of coin is £1200 - don't no if more cores is going to help ,,, or do I really need a new gpu ,,, I don't game ,,, its a pure PS machine

If all you need is a new mobo and CPU £1200 is about £1000 too much!

I'm currently looking at upgrading my AMD chip in my htpc machine and I bank on picking up a used i5 and 1150 motherboard for less than £150 all in. This won't be a weak link in your chain.

You could go mad of course.... (And why not;))

I would go for a quad core i7, unlike the i5 you actually get hyper threading in the i7 so you could end up with 8 or 12 dependending the model you choose. Not all gets sped up in multi-core use in Photoshop but plenty does. Definitely worth it in my opinion.

I've got one 'old' i7-2600K running at 4.5Ghz which still zooms through all tasks. I've also got my 'old' MBA with i7 which is still plenty fast enough. I've also got a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 i5 where I foolishly listened to everyone it is plenty and I'm hitting the limits regularly.

Go for the best performance/value i7 you can get I would say.
